My 8L S3 is only running standard power & while the brakes do fade after good work out a good set of pads up front would probably be enough to sort this, things is I have been given a set of Brembo 6 pots off an Audi Q7 for free, there Brembo 18ZR/ZL calipers, the same as Porsche Cayenne, VW Touareg & I belive ECS use them for there Stage 5 kit.

I have seen a few people selling brackets to mount them to the S3 hubs, I have also been told I can use R32 Golf or TT V6 334 x 32mm Discs & braided hoses, I may also need to space out the wheels depending on spoke design & offset.
I asume if this is the case the brackets will have the calipers sitting closer to the hub to allow for the smaller discs as the Q7 runs 350mm, otherwise the pads will overlap the discs.

Has anybody here done this conversion or driven an S3 etc with these brakes & can give comment on pedal travel/feel when the fitted or if the above info is correct.

Cheers Ewan.

If they are same kind of fitment as the Boxster S it should be easy... the big six pots do give bad pedal feel in the cars ive tried though.
The standard master cylinder cant move enough fluid in one press to make them responsive enough.

Not realy. better brakes will always help you get the best from the car. BUT it needs to be a well thought out kit

The problem with the stage5 kit is that it's overkill for an 8L S3, plus you only have to pick up one of those calipers to feel how much unsprung weight you will be adding to the car which handles soso out the box. These 6-pot are mainly for looks in my opinion, for performance, there's no need to go more than 4-pots on an 8L in my opinion.

Ive been in an octavia with the big ECS kit... and it almost needed double pressing to stop quickly.

I can only asume from that comment you've never actually picked up one of those caliper, Big 6 pots they are but there also aluminium monoblocks, when I picked them up I was amazed @ how little they weighed, compared to stock S3 calipers & carriers I'd say they were lighter if not the same, the complete kit ie Calipers, adaptors, pads & discs will be heavier than stock but the calipers arn't heavy.

This setup would be overkill for my car but its only because the calipers were free I'm considering it & they'd also look quite nice powder coated yellow with the porsche logos on my Imola S3 with black wheels.

The fact that I already have 18" RS4 reps that are quite heavy an even heavier set of brakes won't do the unsprung weight any favours at all.

If I do end up fitting them what options are there for reasonable priced discs of a suitable size? I won't be forking out for the 2 piece floating discs as although they're good I just couldn't justify the costs. Anybody know of another manufacturer that uses big 5x100 discs? What discs is Sandip using that are 350mm?

I have picked up a genuine ECS stage5 brake kit caliper, I thought they we're pretty heavy, don't remember if the pads carriers and disks we're all bundled together or not, was a few years ago when they first came out.

I have the full Compbrake set up, 350mm x 32mm Powervane Racing discs, Comp B4 Pro Race 7 4pot calipers and braided hoses. The kit has the carriers and bolts and brake pedal travel is the same as standard, less spongey but they have a lot more bite! The 350mm discs and calipers weigh less than the oem set up too:)

cheers dooood, me bein lazy :)

umm, am i reading that right, £1k for the 6 pots......

Hmmm possibly, the 360mm rotors may take the 6pots, don't think the car would benefit from 6pot though because of the master cylinder

ah right, so 18" 4 pots is what you have for £900?..... isnt that what a new Brembo junior kit costs?

I think by 18" it means you require atleast 18" wheels to fit the rotors, i have the 350mm rotors, 17" won't fit with 350mm rotors

i would but i simply do not get enough fade to warrant the cost ;) i tend to have a blast 2 one or two roundabouts and thats normally me done :)

just noticed in ya sig....you not sell the JBS mani???

No, JBS mani is on:) My HG has gone so i'll have to get that sorted now before a map:( Feel like chucking an R32 engine in!

haha Voorhees looked into that but decided against...i think he mentioned it would be too front heavy or sumat like that

curious to see what ya get out of that when its sorted fella ;)
