Hi

Well after only 7 months of ownership my 2000 S3 has died completely.:(:(:(

On my way home from work on wednesday this week the engine blew leaving a huge hole in the block. I had it towed to my local specialist and they confirmed the engine is completely F****D!!!! and will require a new engine to be fitted.:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Does anyone know of an S3 APY engine for sale or someone breaking an S3?

Or does anyone fancy a Project?

Any help much apreciated

cheers

I do have an AMK engine with a BAM head on it that needs the stem seals doing...

Tbh, any 1.8t engine (block and head) from a transverse engined VAG will fit... Golf, Octavia, Polo, A3.... long list... check the stickies for the 1.8t info sheet and find one with 20mm gudgeon pins...

I am assuming that a rod let go on your car? Mapped by any chance? 1.8t rods really are made of chocolate!!!

Yeah i think the rod let go. And it hasnt been mapped to my knowledge.

Like I said mate, any transverse 1.8t engine will fit but you will want one with 20mm pins... all your current ancillaries will fit on (including the K04)... you will need to swap the flywheel over too IIRC...

Sorry to here this mate. It breaks me reading this. Have you thought about upgrading? Give backdraft a call see what they can do for you. I think they got a recon head in at the min.

Was you giving it some when it happened?

Where's Welly? lol

Hewwwwo. I was busy drinking and then doing a lot of throwing up over the weekend.....

Bummer about the rod mate, sorry to hear that. I feel your pain. PM if you need more info, been here before....

Hi Guys

After a bit of thought i (think) i have decided to cut my losses and not bother to fix the car. I just havent the time to put in a new engine.

So i am going to try and sell the car as a project or failing that break it for spares.

Anyone interested send me a P.M.

cheers

If you end up breaking can I have first dibs on the door blades? if they are in good condition and not coming away from the door like mine (

dare i say it, another s3??..

not sure yet. Was already thinking about getting something more economical for my work commute before the engine went.

Was thinking an 8P A3 2.0 Tdi 170 S-Line

Hi

Im gonna have the car towed home this weekend. I have had a change of heart and decided i might chaange the engine myself but need a bit of info.

For engine removal do i have to lift the engine or does the front of the car come off allowing the engine to be taken out the front???? before i go and borrow an engine lift to do the job.

cheers

Engine should lift out OK - but it will be tight, and relocation onto the gearbox is a nightmare!

So i take it the front of the car doesnt come off allowing the engine to come out the front?

Sorry to hear about, but glad You decide to fix the car (cause anyway S3 is great one).
And if that helps, 3 months ago I was replacing engine in my mates '00 Toledo which is almost the same when it comes to chassis (at least the engine bay) and we went that way - taking whole front of the car. Maybe it is few more bolts and screws but saves that nightmare with fitting engine on the gerbox without breaking anything else (and it is far more space under the bonnet of 1,9 TDi Toledo than in the S3).
Wish You best and hope it won't be too bad.

It would be cheaper option to fix it i reckon, as tuffty said which i didnt know any 1.8t will fit, and you only need the block and head, so its not going to be mega money, may struggle to get just the block and head though ?

If you was to sell it youd loose massive money on it !

what was the cause of the death out of curiosity?
