Bought my girlfriend a little Ford Ka to learn in 6-7months ago from a private seller for £650.
Since owning it we have only taken it out when giving her lessons and have done no more than 100 miles.

Seller texted us a few months ago asking to give her first refusal if we decide to sell the car on.

Anyway, we are looking to sell it now for something a bit bigger and have offered it to the person we bought it from. They have come back and asked how much we want for it.

Do you reckon it's taking the pee asking for £650, the price we paid them 7 months ago???

The car's condition is better now if anything. Gave it a good clean, put on some proper Ford wheel trims instead of the dodgy ones that were on there.

So what do you reckon???

We've had a change of plate (new reg) since you've bought so id knock about £50-£100 off. Regardless of the miles you have or havnt put on it etc its still 7 months older. As you know sellers want a good price and buyers was a bargain... there are alot of bargains out there!
Good luck and hope you get what you ask.

ALSO.... when she sold it to us the car had 1.5 months tax... now she'll be getting it back with a fresh six months of tax.

True. But she really wants this car back as she knows it well and it's been in her family for a good few years so knows the history of it.

Might give it for £50 cheaper as a nice gesture???

That ****** tax cost almost £70 though!!

I would sell for £600-650, cant be more reasonable than that! Considering it has tax etc

Yeah I reckon £600. Thinking about it I'd feel a little bit cheeky asking for the £650 back, especially with hardly any mot left.

TBH I'd be more worried about little MOT than no Tax. So asking £600 is there or there abouts. Plus you have something over her if she really wants it back!!! Good luck.

S'pose thats a good point, I would rather a car with long MOT and no tax rather than the other way around too.

Ok, so we've offered it at £600, the buyer has agreed the price and just needs to see if she can borrow the money now. It's all come a bit out of the blue for her!

Cheers guys and gal.

Hey...result!

Now whats the next car going to be?????? Something nice, bit bigger and not as girly eh!

Good luck choosing.

Also there is now another owner in the car's history, but I guess if the buyer does not take that into account then it shouldn't affect the price you give!

:eyebrows:

£700 or tell her youll scrap it!!!

Brilliant!!!

Aythree look at as thought you got a car to help the gf get through the initial driving stages. That car has now served it's purpose and you no longer need it.

I'd sell it as they clearly want it back! Check for any treasure maps or a diamond ring tucked aways in the seats or any gaps:o.k:

Excellent thought my friend!!!! They could be wanting it back for the hidden treasure.

Certainly that's how my mind works at this time of night. Little
Imagination to lighten up my life!

am i missing the point? Why would someone buy a car back at the same price as what they sold it to you for. I think you might need to re-evaluate this one - "first refusal" means exactly that. I am not trying to be funny it just seems like we are getting a little excited here!

I guess some cars have just hit their lowest value, and just because it was sold for one price does not mean it's still worth it now. If my dad sold me a ferrari for 5k, when it was worth 100k should i only ever sell it for 4k? A bit extreme I know, but as Aythree said, the car has more tax than it came with so there is grounds for it being the same value.

Yeah what did you end up doing aythree?

 (see below)

Yeah what did you end up doing aythree?

Well she agreed to buy it back for £50 less than she sold it to us for (although speaking to her I could tell she would've given us back the full £650. She seemed almost (pleasantly) surprised that we offered it back at £600 and accepted without question).
Anyway, the car we were going to upgrade to fell through so the whole chain was off. She's disappointed but we did make it clear to her from the start that we would only sell the car if we got the other one we were interested in.

Still looking though.

Fair enough.... unfortunate but something will turn up.

Did you check for treasure maps :jump: (god i'm bored)

You nasty pasty!!!! Sounds like house buying with the whole chain thing. Good luck with buying a new car though, what cars are you looking at?

Not treasury maps, but I did have a feel around for her (treasure) chest the other day.

Just something a little bigger the a Ka for when she passes her test. Maybe a Polo, Punto, 206, something like that.
