New front pads and free up a sticking caliper piston
Brake fluid change
New front CV gaiter and re-grease
Cam belt and water pump
Full check over (got advised rear tyres nearing limit but that's it)

£601, which I thought wasn't too bad. Peace of mind and much better brakes :)
 
oh well it's done now and do so little mileage it won't need doing again for a long time

I nearly died when I got the bill to replace 2 front wishbone rear bushes. £147. Jokers.

I could do it in an hour and have before, sadly didn't have the time this time :(

Won't be going there again.
 
and the sad thing is... you know the cost of the parts. cant stand garages

for example, can anyone tell me how much youd typically get charged to have new rear pads fitted?

LOL, no, no, no, that didn't include parts - that was JUST labour. I provided them with some uprated TT atlas bushes to fit.

ALWAYS do the brakes myself, no matter what. Only trust me.
 
the a3 i was working on lastnight always had a wirring sound from the NSR. the locating screw on the disc was not actually screwed all the way in. as a result the disc was never on straight and neither was the wheel due to the protuding screw :S

Someone did a good job there then....

A thread on here a while back had an A3 which had been to Audi for 2 new rear springs, had them fitted upside down.

Quality work that.
 
upside down is impressive. makes you laugh at how much these morons put emphasis on full service history lol

as for the screw, sure things can vibrate loose etc but the most it would do is loosen flush with the wheel. this was protruduing 2mm-3mm. sadly all her previous work was done by a pretty big name tuner thats local to us

You can always find things cheaper and yes you can do them yourself but when you don't have time or the exp then it makes sense.

I think that pricing looks on the money from what I have historically paid
 
I can understand why garages charge so much though. They make on the parts to help with their insane overheads like any business will. And labour is high because you not only paying the mechanic but you also paying receptionist, tools, equipment and usage of the building. Then on top of that dealers have to pay for the franchaise. They should give you a good idea of price so its upto you wherever you pay for that peace of mind.
 
i paid £650 couple years back...got

cambelt + water pump
Haldex filter and oil
Engine service including fuel filter, air/oil/pollen filters
full set of genuine mats
Alarm switch replaced
Coolant
genuine Aero wipers

and a few other bits (cant rem)

thats from my local ex Audi chap :)
 
just offf topic but simular the throttle vale has just gone on the wifes 2.0 TDI seems a common problem. VW quoted over £300 for the part then reduced it to £285 best they could do. Got one from Eurocarparts £177. Fitted in 10 mins job sorted.
 
I was just quoted £502 pounds for 4 new brake discs and brake pads, lol audi prices!
