New engine required + Haldex coupling

Dear all,

Sadly after fitting a new cylinder head (none_OEM new head + valves, camshafts - refurbs) and new turbo (aftermarket made out of tins by small Chinese handies in the MAO republic) and having driven the car for about a month and a half I discovered a rattle in the engine which I further ignored due to a heavy work schedule and lack of time for inspection up to the point when two weeks later it started getting progressively worse with every mile and the oil warning light made an appearance couple of times at random moments. For many of you here blessed with mechanical knowledge this is nothing new, for me it's a knife in the back and all the work of last 6 months and over £2000 went down the drain because we were trying to fix the problem without knowing the cause. To put some light on what happened - instead of going with the ridiculous quotation from the dealership I went with a small time mechanic that was recommended to me by a friend to half the costs. The issue was the head and turbo, the parts were the cheaper alternatives due to lack of funds and in all fearness to the guy he did what he could with a screwdriver and a hammer. However, because it wasn't apparent and without the right tools and instruments he didn't know that there was a blockage in the pick up pipe & sump or whatever the right wording for this is and the damage done to the engine from the oil starvation (my own fault) renders the situation hopeless.

On top of that the specialists that I took the car to found a fault in the haldex system, turns out the squeaky noise from the right rear axle wasn't the brakes as I was explained and the resistance on front wheels at a idle speed turn with a full lock wasn't the wheels being too big.

Now that I know that I need to look for a new engine and the haldex coupling and the costs involved I'm even more upset because at the time when I started the repairs there was a brand new BAM from backdraftmotorsports for grabs for £2000.

Anyway, I'm not giving up and thinking of turning this into a project of some sort. Buying a standard replacement engine and the coupling being the obvious starting point but I would like to look into the alternatives and perhaps get a fully build engine with a BT and the power output of 350-400. Can those of you who have the experience in this area please lay some facts and help me pick the best configuration and explain in detail the costs involved so I can establish the budget and the date for completion.

Will greatly appreciate all the help and involvement.

I had been following both threads for some time now but am more interested in a ready to bolt on proven solution kind of a thing rather than speculations, of course if there's one. Going to make some enquiries tomorrow with backdraftmotorsports to see what they could possibly build for me for what money. Any other reputable places to go to? What about dropping a bigger beast into the engine bay, who here went that road and what was the outcome?

Faz on here had a slightly impressive motor - had an RS4 engine dumped into the S3. Impressive - to say the very least.

Not a cheap, easy, or quick project though...

Cheers chaps, not ready to make a purchase yet though. I want to get everything together at the same time and just drop it in and bolt it on instead of gathering parts here and there. That's why I'm trying to find out which is the best configuration in this situation, going BT or dropping a bigger heart into the engine bay. It will all come down to money and long term reliability. I'm not after 800+ hp simply because it's not practical and because of that - pointless, no offense. I'm pretty much on the same page with Tuffty here, I don't want no RS badges, big mofo wings and go-faster stickers. I'm after an everyday car to go to work and back and as much OEM look as possible. AND I want to be able to eat big kids driving their dads 911's when I feel like it.

So, what numbers am I looking at?
