Company Iphones

Has anyone here been supplied or been involved with an Iphone roll out from their workplace??

If so, whats it like, is it locked down, who is it with and which one is it??

Im asking as we are currently looking into rolling out the Iphone, possibly the Iphone 4 and we are looking into policies etc and how to make it all work properly.

I will be rolling it out in our company in a month or two. It integrates directly with exchange so there's no need for seperate servers (like blackberry enterprise server).
Should be pretty straight forward to do for any network admin worth his/her salt. For anyone else who has pretty good IT skills you can find plenty of guides around the net that explain how to get it all up and running correctly.

Cheers Aythree, we use Lotus Notes, but i believe it has been implemented to be used with that, so should be ok, im looking more into the restriction side of things.

Also with updating to the latest version, which I believe is 4.01, is there a way we can put that on a central server and have everyone connect up to that, as currently I believe it needs to point to your C drive, but the download when last attempted was just under a gig in size.

In between doing coke can magic I run the network of the firm I work for, and I'm the accountant for the singapore branch of the business.
Bit of a mixed bag cos I studied network admin etc... but most of my employment experience is in finance/accounting.
IT and Accounts, 'eh..... how interesting am I!!!

Yeah BES is good. Although the over-the-air activation of new handsets never seems to work and since a few updates ago all our user permissions have gone to sh*t!

IMO there is no substitute for having the handset in your hand and doing the whole process yourself.

Whilst not always convenient, it saves trouble in the long run!

Loads of my users travel overseas or work from home. They lose their handset, panic and want a replacement the same or next day. Adding that extra day or so for the phone to be delivered here, plugged into the BES and then sent to them causes the phoneless person to go into emotional meltdown.

It's even worse when they take the initative and go buy a new phone themselves, ask me why their emails aren't coming through, and then I have to ask them to send the new phone to me so I can plug it in for 2 seconds and then send it back to them!

I just hate it when you've got an option to do something (i.e. over the air activation), you go to do it, and it doesn't work.

I'm confused. Do you already have iPhones then?? Thought you were thinking about introducing them.
If you go for iPhone4's then you won't need to worry about updating them for now.

But when the time comes... I wouldn't be surprised if apple/itunes has something in place that stops handsets updating from a central location i.e. a network drive.

TBH I haven't used them yet, but I did use itunes to update my ipod touch (an iphone without the phone) and found a way to browse to an update file located on a usb memory stick. So can't see any reason why people wouldn't be able to browse to a folder on your network which holds the update, as long as you've mapped a drive to it.

I have a company iPhone, no restriction, they just don't like you loading music and apps on it in case they get audited.

That's if they fancy coming down from Glasgow to see what's on my phone.

Soz, we have a couple of test ones ready to implicate, but we want to be 100% sure they are ok before doing the roll out, i reckon its 99% confirmed, but im just trying to do some research to make sure we are ok to go ahead with it and it runs smoothly.
