Site New Colours and changes

Server loads are pretty low since I turned some stuff off earlier, and pages are loading nice and fast my end (rendering all in one go within a second or so of click)...

Just as I didn't notice it earlier...

And how did you do that with my signature?? It works nicely in all schemes now. :yahoo: :applaus:

I cut the writing out of the black baground, turned it blue, and stuck it on a transparent background; et voila!

Just had it a few mins ago here as well :( Surely the 'Pics of your Mrs' thread isn't causing that many extra hits is it? :p

Has anybody else noticed that you can amend the title of a thread you created by double clicking on blank space of that thread in the forum list.
It then allows you to change the name.
Only seems to work in the General Chat forum though.

Like this.........

I'm going to ban someone before it gets revoked!
I can give you a little list of names to start with if you like? You could be like a spec ops assassin. I'll start building a batch of self-destructing cassette players...

Anywho... Users should be able to edit the title of their own threads, just as they can edit the content of post #1, or any of their other submissions on that thread - within standard expiry periods/restrictions etc. You should be able to do that in any forum though - I've just tried with a test account in the same usergroup as yourself and it worked just fine. I'd imagine in the areas of the forum you've been unable to edit your thread title, that those threads are older, and outside the cooling-off period within which you're able to edit the title.

Cheese

Rob.

Yeah, did notice that it was only my own threads that I could edit the title of.
Although, I can change the title of other user's threads (it highlights and I can type over it) but it doesn't appear to save the changes (which kinda spoilt my afternoon fun plan).

I don't seem to be able to get the double-click highlighting of thread titles to happen in any other forum though, no matter when they were created.
But I can get it to come up with threads in general chat that are weeks old.
But again, the changes don't save if the thread is old or not mine, I just get the little spinning icon thing, as if it's thinking about it.

I guess none of this really matters as basically I can't change anything I shouldn't be able to change, even if it does look like it's going to allow me to do it.

I'll stop talking about it now.

the guest site colours are much clearer than when im logged in, nice and sharp

If you're talking about the music and animation that almost knocked me off my chair last night then I was going to post about it this morning but couldn't be totally sure that I didn't dream it.

I saw it, thats about all I have to say on this.

Why on earth is that daft screen there, what a waste of what felt like hours of my time, i want that time back !!

The reason no one has commented is they couldn't get past the splash screen stuttering away and got bored and went elsewhere

Close to my thoughts.

It's not that bad. In fact it was kinda cool and trippy!
And you can always click on 'skip' if it does your head in that much.

Dude, that's a bit of a paradox eh? It must be some way work friendly, because ASN surely is part of your work. Unless of course you're going to sit there and tell me you never trade on ASN, EVER?

Anyway, there are three more pertinent/useful bits of information for you:

1) As stated on the other thread, it's part of a development project by my esteemed colleague; and may or may not stick around (and probably not in current form/location etc.) - every now and then, things need to be tested (I'm sure you can understand). So (again as on the other thread), please accept our thanks/apologies for being a guinea-pig (and again in this case, perhaps of antrhopology just as much as technology), and bearing with us.

2) Don't worry, unless you have cookie problems, you won't have to go writing a blunt and bitchy post like that again for another 90 days.

3) Speakers often have volume controls, Windows(/MacOS/'nix) almost ALWAYS has volume controls.

...Number 1's the crux of it though...

Cheers,

Rob.

non work friendly, as it blasts out of the speakers initially.. It does, I did'nt dream it, made me jump - lol

as for work, I have 2 jobs, and the day one would be the unfriendly one, as it would for the majority of users of this... with >25,000 posts on SCN, I do have a clue about what works and what does'nt ;)

this site remains pretty flakey, working quite differently on different pc's i use.. scroll in particular is odd, if you go end it zooms pages off screen to have to page up and up and up repeatedly.. but not on all machines.. Quite an odd phenomena i thought.

I understand its a work in progress, for sure, and if you find my posts, abrupt, thats me.. so dont take offence.
ASN is one of the least stable forums about tho, which is a shame, as it quite active, and could be really good, as you iron out the bumps and wrinkles.. keep it up, but man, that splash screen and noise is seriously tacky fella.. ewwww.

my 2p

OK all Fun over this wasn't supposed to be the big event of the year it was just some fun with some new software. I have turned it off for now so we can get on with some more important things. Thank you for playing and falling into the normal rolls :)

I agree that ASN has had a hard time and we are still fighting some of the problems that VB4 and some hardware problems have left us with. These I hope will get ironed out over the next few weeks.

Thanks onces again to everyone who has an input into what happens on here and we will carry on trying to get things better.

Are we all happy? probably not and you can't please everyone all the time :)

Lets move on

Many thanks

A

So just to throw petrol on to the proverbial fire how do we feel about the side bar? you can hide it and we can remove it from selected pages. Let me know...

Its not the sort of thing I'll ever use. I've minimised it, but every time the pages reload it pops up for a few seconds before closing itself.

Yes it goes away, it does just show for a second and then disappear.

Using Firefox.

There's an arrow on the right hand side of the box looks like this >>> - click that.
