I'm thinking of dropping an inch and moving down to 17". There are a few reasons. The first is the 18" are in need of refurbishing, as the wife has just about trashed the front alloys. The second is that 17" tyres will have a larger side wall, and final is the somewhat hard ride of the s-line.

So I was looking at B8 17" alloys as I like the style but I was wondering if the offset is correct.

Something like these.

Is it a B7 you have?
Standard offset for B7 is 43 but will also depend on wheel width.

If you use this calculator it will tell you how the distance to inner and outer edge of arch but you will need to know the wheel sizes, ie 8jx18 et43 etc. Easy to find wheel specs as they tend to be stamped on the inside of the wheel/spokes.

if u put the widest tyre you can on your 18's it will increse the profile depth giving more protection. i.e if youve a 235/35 the 35 is 35% of the 235 so 35 profile on a 255 would give a little more.

Would have to see what that would looked like, I don't like the stretched look on tires, but this could look like I'm driving around on flats?

Also worth looking at different tyres - e.g. the Goodyear F1 asymmetrics appear to have larger rim protector bands than the Pirelli or Michelin tyres of the same size.

not with ya, if youve 18's it would be 40 profile and with 245's youd have good amount of wheel protection, 17's in my opinion on a big A4 will look like a shopping trolly! if style aint your thing then go for it mate

What I mean is that the tyre bulges out (protecting the rim) but could look a bit odd. I do like the look of 18" rim's on the car, but damaged 18" rim look worse then fitting good condition 17" + the wife drives the car I don't think she would care if they were 15" rims, as long as they are round & filled with air, thats good enough for her.

Are you going to buy another B7 and then you can start building an ark for your Audi's....Audi's two by two :)

Looking for an S2 Coupe at the moment so that still may happen.

you shoulda just said the wife drives it! get the 17's on lol

Now that's a sight to see, go on....put some 15's on :)

Or, if she's happy with round and filled with air, what about balloons?
