Hi,

I have a 2001 A3 1.8 20vT. I need it remapped badly as it's not the fun i was hoping for. I have a custom code place pretty local but have been advised r-tech are really good. Had a CC on my last car and loved it. Are there any horror stories about r-tech and does there cheaper price reflect anything?

Thanks in advance

I have nothing yet. Was looking to just go to one of the places, remap sorted, drive off. Just heard r-tech will sort all small issues and everything so your cars running sweet before they do it and it's also cheaper.

yup i have CC on my S3 and am going R tech next as CC wont do a stage 2 with my mods..... R tech dont have much bad feedback at all, infact you will struggle to find any

Our A3 is going to R tech for its stage 2 as CC are about £100 more expensive and R tech throw in before and after RR figs for what they are worth :)

They do seem to be awesome on price and the fact they won't do it till your cars running good seems cool.

Thanks

no mapping firm will map ya car unless it passes the vagcom check matey...dont judge on that ;)

I guess i'm in it for the savings then. And the fact i'll be interested to see the before and after read outs

yeah, i cant vouch for R tech (Prawn has had both ands really rates them in comparison to CC)......can only say thats where mine is going next, with or without the RR (only cos im wanting a more unique to me stage 2)

Tim i'd be looking forward to seeing the RR before and after. What exactly are you getting extra with the s3 for the stage 2?

not a lot mate just that CC wont do me a stage 2 without downpipe/exhaust (when we all know the exhaust is a pointless S3 mod unless you want noise), i was going to fit an FMIC then get the boost wacked up a tad over what it is now

so essentially your making the most out of getting the FMIC. Would def be interesting. What do r-tech claim? You'd have to let me know when your getting it done as cov isnt too far away from hinkley. would be good to see the results.

no idea mate....i spoke to R tech originally regards the A3 then they said i ought to get mine to them as they apparently had a load of VRS's on an RR day....they said they all found the CC map too aggresive and all promptly switched to R tech maps....i couldnt see that personally as CC is far from aggresive in the map stakes unless your stage 3

im going for the fact that they will turn up my boost to account for the fmic rather than the maps themselves, i see that CC are trying to sell me into their stage 2 by getting me to have an exhaust when it wont beneift from it

I have been more than happy with stage 1 from Rtech, and as mentioned before they are thorough in making sure the car is running well beforehand, to the point where they take parts off their own car and put it on yours to test failing bits. For what they charge it is a top service.

Dog, i have no doubt they are good but any decent mapping place will do that....... nothing against R tech intended as i am going rthere next, but that isnt a reason to use them IMO

I don't know Tom ....
Whilst both revo and cc checked the car for fault codes
on vagcom, neither did anything even close to rtechs pre map check. They checked EVERYTHING, even removing the mac and smoke testing the whole system. Also, generally rtech will make time to fix small issues, where previously cc have mapped a car, and just said "it's done, but it's got a boost leak and a dead maf sensor. That'll be £400 please sir. No, we're not going to do anything about your issues"

That's not a reason to use them though, you should use them because they have THE best maps for the 1.8t

Ordinarily i would have said R-tech, but they seem to be having problems keeping up and returning phone calls. Shame really.

that's a real shame man. Nick is pretty hard to get hold of, but when I do eventually get through he always does what he can to sort me out!

try calling once every 20 mins through the day, eventually you're bound to get hold of Nick

I didn't have any problems getting hold of r-tech either, although I only rang them I havn't emailed them. But they seemed very professional and easy to deal with so I'm going on the 31st!

Ps nice use of Bill's quote in your sig Steve!

so you dont want to do the advised mods to make the most of a remap, stage 2, and am going with someone who will map it as is?
do i read that right as being your decision making here?

FMIC is a great first mod, and downpipe follows shortly after..
If you cant control the heat, dont ask for excess boost. I have seen a few cars come by me which have had stage 2's fitted by some places without any of the mandatory (to me) mods to make it a safe map.

Tufftys exhaust seemed to cope well on his BT (ish), but downpipe and cat on the 210/225 motors do help hold in heat which is the enemy as we know. they suffer high egts as it is when mapped and driven hard

good luck tho. you will luv it afterwards

TBH i have lost confidence, i would go with Bill if only he could do it. I have an alternative tuner that can flash my ECU and 4wd tune it, until then, i will reserve judgement,LOL

I'm sure I'd have lost confidence if I were in your position too
