Speed Camera Detector - Which One and Where Do you Have It ?

Since it seems impossible to get speedcam POIs onto the RNS-E then I may get a GPS based camera detector, like the Origin PogoAlert, Snooper Sapphire, RoadAngel Pro, etc.

I'm guessing I'm not the only one who will have gone down this route. Which do you have, would you recommend it, and any pics of where you have it installed ( ie window mounted, or attached to the dash somewhere ) would be great !

Hi Yaks, I have had a few over the years, and the Pogo Alert is way the best imho, a lot of the reviews say the same too. I am just about to purchase another myself for the new delivery in Sept, along with jammers (Ahhem, I mean garage door openers) all round!
The Pogo can be hard wired too which is a bonus, most are stuck on the windscreen with a cig lighter adaptor.
 
Save your money...
If you just want to get a camera position reminder go for some thing cheap like this

waste of money though......If you are driving along and you see a camera sign.....then a big yellow box on a pole...with another sign on it saying SPEED CAMERA....then markings in the road...then you notice everyone else has slowed down....thats the give away. If you missed all that then a detector will not help you.

Dont even think about jammers or detectors, they dont work quick enough. By the time the plod has hit the sensor on the front of your car and set off the warning......its already too late.

They also include the mobile sites in their database, so you don't get the signs, road markings, etc as a warning for those ;)

Jammer, probably the Blinder M47, its a dear doo, but about the best I think. There are a others, but not sure they work as well.

It is impossible to get lasered with the jammers fitted, the laser 'Detectors' yes, as it IS too late then, but with the jammers they cannot get a lock on the car at all.

And yes Yaks, the Pogo tells you where the laser sites are, and also tells you your average speed through the 'Specs' sites. It has saved my bacon on MANY occasion, don't care what anyone says, we all get in a trance now and again with our favorate music playing, and its SO easy to miss a camera, especially at night, and after all, we only need to be flashed a couple of times!!
 
Have got the pogo alert, nice bit of kit. Have it hardwired into the fuse board and have mounted it to the dash to the right of the speedo cluster.

I think these things are invaluable, especially in areas you don't know.

And no matter what people say the laser detector saved my bacon once-must have picked up scatter off the cars in front, either that or one of the village people was pointing a hairdryer at people by Hammersmith Bridge.
 
Best gate opener I've ever had experience with is the Target LT 450. It opened the gates at our house automatically and had another feature which helped my license. It was shown on fifth gear a while back fitted to a Volvo T5.
 
Don't bother. I've had Bell Radar detectors Euro 550 + Roadangel 1 & GPS. GPS very annoying!! with no radar. Radar becomes annoying with the ammount of false alerts. Trust me Ive had them for years.
 
I just use a simple TomTom One loaded with the Pocket GPS World's camera database. The unit just gives a "beep beep" when you approached a camera site. Enough of a warning without becoming tiresome. TomTom's own camera database is a waste of time because it's so out of date whereas the PGPSW one is updated two or three times a month and is quite simple to download and add to the TomTom..

I have mine mouted on the screen next to the right hand pillar with a power feed from the fuse box tucked into the trim. That way it's easy to see and read without getting in the way of normal driving. It also tells you the speed limit for the section of road you are on at any time. You can also use the same device as a normal Sat Nav of course although I have a TomTom XL Live mounted in a Brodit mount on the centre console for my navigation.
 
I have AMI and use Iphone and an app that cost 59p it of course only works when you are listening to songs etc. from the iphone, it does though work very well the app updated reg, includes mobiles, there speeds, and average cameras.
the music quietens when the warning comes up, and ofc the say nav and phones system is still all integrated.

The only down side if your phones loses gps signal the app closes, and has to be restarted which is annoying as it is in thje glove box, and you never know when it loses gps, though it is rare if it does.

I do believe there is an update coming along with the SAT NAV Audi DVD being populated with a speed camera data base from a 3rd party supplier, no audio warnings, and how often is that going to have updated speed camera bases., though nice to see a camera on the map.

Yes but that Novus rider has mobile sites but it just goes off every 1/2 mile....!! so you switch it off. They mobile target the road from Cromer to Swaffham..about 30 miles and the thing flashes and pings all the way.

With the PocketGPS database you can have all the mobile sites showing up on the map but choose whether the unit beeps for these or not. I agree that if you have it set to beep for mobile sites as well it will be beeping for just about ever layby in the country.
 
I just use my phone (N900) and an application called 'Roadrunner' which is freeware combined with an awareness of what other drivers are doing in areas that I'm new to!

There are numerous sites that provide GPS POI data which you can load into the application so you can choose whether it flags static/mobile cameras. The GPS POI data is updated frequently too.

I have bluetooth in the car so whenever the application is aware of an upcoming speedcamera it cuts any sound coming from the RNS-E and signals the speedcamera alert through the car speakers via bluetooth, just as it would if it was an incoming call... You can configure the time period by which you would like to be warned before hitting the speedcamera zone too.

Works for me. I'm sure there will be apps out there for other phones with GPS capability...

I presume you have to remember to start the Roadrunner app every time you enter the car, is that correct ? Not an issue for most drives as I know all the local ones, more just on longer trips. I've got the iPhone and although there is an app called Roadrunner it seems to be something different, sure there will b eothers if I search on Speed Cameras or equivalent - Thanks
 
I use Trapster running on an HTC phone.
 
Stick to the speed limit and you won't need a camera detector.

Yeah, like yourself, no need to start it up when im in areas i'm familiar with but for longer distance trips its just a case of starting it up. So yes, you have to remember to start it up when you want to use it.

There is an Iphone app similar to roadrunner, I think I may have even seen a thread on it on here... try a quick search. I think a guy I work with may use is Iphone and an app for speedcam detection - I'll run it past him tomorrow and let you know...
