CR K04 Stage 4 Hybrid, comparison to k04

Glad your happy with your results Steve, they are very good although the torque figure does seem low.

Surely if that torque figure is more accurate, shouldnt that mean you shouldnt need any upgraded internals such as rods. I know its "more safe than sorry" but standard rods should be able to withstand a increase in about 50ft-lbs.

rods is peace of mind for sure. fit and forget

log block 122 and see what torque the ecu thinks is going on...

I agree (if) the torque being seen on my dyno is how it is and not some measurement issue, then the rods *should* be safe, however, anything thinking that one of these hybrids will just bolt onto a stage 2 car will see >2bar boost spike, at which point they will more than like get intimate with their engines internals rapidly.

The hybrid took some calming down in the initial spool within the map to prevent this spike. (mbc fitted now anyhows, which achieves same thing.. n75 alone will nuke the rods I think left alone without map to suit)
 
So are you saying if you fit a CR hybrid turbo you may be better getting a MBC & mapping to suit instead of the N75 Bill ?
I only ask as I was speaking to Mark the other day & we were wondering wether just bolting on to a stage 2 car would work....
Also when are we talking about changing valves, over 350bhp ?

I dont think there is any way that bolting the CR turbo onto a stage 2 car will work as bill was saying at start the turbo wanted to go to 30psi. Injectors i would say are the best bet so then your not stressing the fuel pump! If you look at it as close to IHI power without as much expense (no manifold) unless of course yours is cracked

Those manifolds are worth replacing if possible, with a better item when more become slightly more readily available at a reasonable price. The OE item of us have which most of us have is simply crap!

MBC would clamp the inherant spike it would otherwise have.
It might suffice initially on a stage 2 car, but injectors wont be up to it, and fuel scaling will need to be adjusted. I dont know how much of this adjustment can be achieved by unisettings fuel adjusts, but 4bar +pump or larger injectors will be needed judging by what I logged on steves s3 this weekend.

high revs/heat/power is where I would be looking for valves. hybrid is the limit of what I would feel comfortable doing without valves. All depends on how lucky you feel. I have run IHI myself on bog stock ibiza engine for many 1000's miles without valve issues. revving to 7800rpm. maybe i was lucky?

Hello Speedy Steve, good to see you are happy with the results, I have been waiting to see the results of the hybrid (as I am sure alot of people have).

Now that you have been the guinea pig and won I think I will go down the same route.

Can I ask where you got the 440 injectors from, and/or the part numbers as there seems to be quite a few varients. or does anyone know of any 'scrap yard cars' that have similar sized ones as standard?

Badger with the everything speedy steve's done to the engine what would you suggest the next engine mods would be?

Exhaust manifold?
Inlet manifold with R32 T/B?
Large port head?
 
Bill had the injectors in stock so i dont know what they are. I just got in my car turn the radio OFF and enjoy the engine sounds all the way home

Thanks for the info. I was thinking about adding a hybrid turbo, injectors and uprated fuel pump to a stage 2 setup up then get it mapped to suit.

Be good to see how a hybrid K04 and GT28rs compare as dont they give similar power outputs but different delivery, similar cost to ini.

exhaust manifold as and when one comes onto the market and is proven to be reliable


I dont see a largeport being needed as such on these airflows or larger tbody
 
Would be good to see a power graph or even better drive it lol. 300+bhp / 250lbs is an interesting figure. Wonder how it feels compared to my (roughly) 250bhp / 290lbs.

I had to Google WMI! No idea what it was! So what difference will water meth injection make?
 
I have a Water / Meth water vapor injector pre Turbo

Easy to make and it seam to work before i did the engine but will be fitting a better system later

you better be bringing it down when you come see me then so i can have a go :thumbsup:, i have had a go in one hybrid before but other then mapping and the turbo it was std so was'nt any quicker then my setup.
 
I was just talking to the GF about this if we went down in the S3 or my caddy van the only thing is its 340 miles round trip

in that case definantly use the s3 be much more comfortable :sly:
 
steves is way quicker than any stock turbo'd s3 i have driven

lets hope he comes see me in it then :beerchug:
think the misses will end up hating him though as it be more cash injected into the car oppsss..

i currently have; fmic, 3 inch downpipe and cat, tip, 4bar, bmc, stage2 mapping
so if i was to go for the hybrid all id need is the rods and turbo correct???? also how much would you charge to mapp it and would you trace any faults etc in that price such as boost leaks, i dont mean spend hours fixing stuff, cheers
 
As Bill has said before its prob better to go 440 injectors and 3bar to save the fuel pump from having to over work itself. So id be tempted to do that aswell Kev

oh yeah forgot about injectors, i currently have the 4bar for the AMD stage2 mapp, id also rather use larger injectors but AMD wanted to use 4bar for there mapp :shrug:
 
It would be good to know how well this flows with the supported mods and extra mods like ex manifold and a large port head/manifold,do you think it could reach the 350hp mark with these?
 
i dont think going to a large port head with valves and spring a 75mm TB and inlet manifold a new exhaust manifold (when one comes out that works) are really worth it to get the little extra power if you want 350+ go BT to do it with a K04 youll just be pushing it to much and it wont last! the only things i plan to do to mine are exhaust manifold when a good one comes out and WMI as the EGT's get rather high as it is
