Good morning peoples....

Upon my return from holiday, I decided I needed a new project.

The S3 is an ongoing project, and the mini moto got sold without ever seeing the nitrous kit I had planned :( as the engine went into my nephew's quad.

So, the garage being empty(ish) meant it was time for something new. So I bought me a bargain....

Friday night brought a new (yellow) toy -

It's a Shineray XY250 STX. Shineray being some Chinese brand I've never heard of, however the internet assures me that they are actually well respected in the MotoX community.

It's an 08 plate, with 1000 miles on it. Needs some work, and has clearly been left out in the rain as parts are rusty. Needs a new battery, new front N/S ball joint and a chain tensioner. Other than that, it's good to go. No MOT required for a while yet!!

Collected for £585 cash. Worth (IMO) £900 - £1000 (as they are £1400 new).

Thoughts....

Welly. with only reading the title, i already knew you were mental

as for the quad.... what sort of people do you normally see riding about on quads? oh, the same sort of people you see in M3 cabrio!! are you a chav in real life welly :S

Should I go and buy myself a nice Burberry cap? LOL.

Na blud, you wouldn't catch looking anything like a chav innit! I don't roll with that crowd blud.

*cough*

Anyway, no mate, quads are just great fun! :)

daft question, do they actually have a diff? i had a quad years back (im a chav, but im from essex so im allowed to be) it had no diff so on tarmac it felt lethal changing direction

Nope, no diff, just a centrally driven rear axle. They can be a bit skitty under direction change, but this one (unlike the Raptor) has a really wide front axle, wider than the back, making it really stable on the road.

I've had to just order the parts needed to fix it up and get it sorted - £60 delivered for all three bits needed.

Going to buy a 300cc carb as well, and fit it to the 250cc engine. They're only £35.99 brand new, and saves rejetting the one I've got already.

Plan to cut out the 'cat' from the exhaust as is really restrictive, and only small, so weld a bit of pipe in it's place for some volume 'n power increase.

Tax is reallt expensive for them for what they are now though, what with the emissions being so high. They are very dirty engines.

Make sure it doesn't get nicked. We have these things along with bikes getting nicked all the time. (I work for Tracker in the Control Room) :)

Yeah, I bet they do to be fair, thieving b*stards.

Still, it lives in my locked garage at night with a disc lock and a steering lock, guarded by a 10 stone Rottie....

Fingers crossed we'll be OK....

But agreed

I'll second the theft thing, they're like hot cakes!.

I'll hope not to find it burnt out at 3am on an empty industrial estate :D

They're good fun though....especially when we find them and they still run ;)
