I notice alot of companies do remaps for the S3, now my question is, do they really differ from one another or are they just generic maps downloaded for the 1.8 T engines (& why the price differences) ?
I'm angling for ideas of who to go to in the south & if it's really worth it, bang for buck.
I had a fwd Rover with 260bhp/260lbft & that was an animal with the Quaiffe diff, can I expect the S3 to be the same once remapped or still the tame car it feels now ?

Steve

Anyone thats had a remap recently??
Pleased with the results, how much different does the car feel ??
Thanks

differences are in the power deliveries so you need to hunt out dyno plots

as for a 260bhp rover... thatll be savage, the s3 will still feel sensible

Thats what I'm trying to find out, the Rover really was a handfull when the GT28R came on boost & great to drive with the Quaiffe diff, the torque steer was immense though  , I really like the S3 but it's sooo boring to drive :(

so safe and sensible. remap will help keep you amused for a bit longer but with regard to handling response...

I think the general feeling is Revo feels more aggressive than custom code- which is more of a progressive power delivery

I almost went & got the free trail from Revo just to see if it made my mind up but I have heard it makes the car feel flat afterwards ?
I have lowered the car & plan on at least adding the 4 Motion 16mm rear ARB & new drops all round as mine are shot. If I liked it then I was going to be doing a few of the bushes as they are tired, well the front wishbones are anyway.
I just don't want to pay £400+ for a remap only to feel cheated when the car only hits 250bhp... £100 per 10 brake

Try R-tech very good reputation, at a good price I got a quote of £250 yesterday. Ticks my boxes so I'm booked in.

No. dont get hung up or fixated on bhp. its all BS anyway.

yup as above...... im planning on R tech for my stage 2 as they offer a more custom service than CC or Revo

It's all about the curve of the bhp and torque lines and the area under those lines. Get graphs and make an informed choice. An exmaple would be:

delivers like a diesel. freefall torque from 3krpm on wards

I have a Superchips stage 1 map which was already on the car when i bought it. The power is VERY smooth, so smooth i don't really like it though. Some people prefer it compared to the Revo 'throw you in your seat' feel. I'm changing to Revo stage 2 next year which should be spot on for me.

I've heard about R-Tec and i'm kinda tempted to see what they can offer me!

That's a common misconception. It's still generating over 200lb torque at 6.5k rpm, i've seen K04 maps that struggle to generate that at 3k rpm. Just because it has a higher peak earlier in the range doesn't mean it generates less torque at higher rpm. But it does pull like feck for an otherwise standard car :)

I don't get that graph, is that supposed WHP & torque @ the fly ?
I bet that feels very aggressive off the mark. I have to admit I have turned my forge BOV round & stuck super in it today & it deffo feels alot better to drive already.. maybe it's just because I haven't driven it for a few weeks.... A remap with 285 lbft of torque could be quite interesting I have to say.... I bet the rods won't like that torque delivery though, nor the box..

misconception? it does ramp up and then tail off. thats exactly what its doing if the plot is to be beleived. 300lbft spike, so much promise and then followed by so much let down as it tails off like a diesel

It's supposed to represent bhp and torque at the wheels, the graphs are from an audi-sport rolling road meet we had at Awesome GTI a year or two ago. I can't remember the exact date but there were a few regulars from here there (jojo etc). A pic says a thousand words:

If you think this graph is hard to get your head around check the one from Jabba Sport where it orignially had the map (link is in my sig)!

The delivery is quite aggressive but it certainly comes in useful when overtaking and when trying to gain some ground out of sharp corners. As DJTroopa mentions, I personally prefer to feel the turbo doing its stuff. A mate at work has a 225 TT which is mapped by custom code and his delivers the power more smoothly, but to be honest it just feels slow. We've had a few traffic light grand prix's when leaving work and it just can't compete even though it's supposed bhp figure is very similar.

It's been mapped like this for over three years and (touch wood) i've had no issues other than blowing a couple of coilpacks therefore i'd recommend using Jabbasport for a custom map. Coming back to your original post 5teve L, it's worth seeing graphs from a few tuners and then choosing based on your personal preference, it's also worth getting a drive in the cars if you can.

Got the Superchips remap here and love the creamy delivery, economys good too, whatever you decide to go for definately get a remap it makes a big diference to any 1.8T engine and well worth the money as tuning mods go it's the biggest bang per buck.

Not sure what map i have but i've been told it's smooth, what g/s are you getting with the Superchips remap?

I might be getting a custom map done on mine but i've also been looking the cc vvt attack, anybody know what this map is like?

funky i can tell you the Revo and CC are pretty much equal, me and jimmeh tested both cars side by side in numerous tests from different speeds and there was nothing in it at all..... the REvo was perhaps more laggy but neither of us wanted to swap....if your mates TT is CC and you demolishing him, hes either a crap driver or has sumat wrong with his car - i guarantee you that

R tech is supposed to be a smooth map too according to them.....

And if we are using Awesomes rollers then can we at least edit bugs bunny (a bit of fiction) onto the picture as we know they are notorious for being extremely generous, probably why your seeing silly figures in the graph above...they are renowned for it

I have no idea Sandip. I'm running a BMC kit on my car aswell. I'm getting the Liquid Gauge in a couple of days so i'll be able to tell you very soon ;)

Sandip, according to VAGCOM I'm peaking at 206g/s and the thing feel really strong on boost, very flexible throughout the rev range

Cool, would be interesting to see what your is boosting at, those Superchip figures/graphs don't add up lol

Standard - 210bhp, mapped 259bhp which is a 49bhp increase, they've put down an increase 59bhp on the top, they've done the same with the torque too, strange:)

SAndy......thats why im doing the fmic then stage 2 with r tech mate......partial custom map so they can turn the boost up to benefit from the lower EGT's ;)

I've never understood your map Sandip as the figures are really low. Will be interesting to see what you get with your new map and current mods including the downpipe! :)

Hmmm i see, is that on your S3? I think i'll nip down to R Tech soon to have a chat and maybe have a quick power run to see what it's running.

Dj_Troppa > The 221bhp is what a got Ajec and all stage1's were coming out with low figures (230ish), the torque was around 240lbs

We're not using Awesomes rollers, we're just posting graphs so 5teve can see the different curves on offer from different tuners. The specific numbers here are irrelevant. If we we're aiming to post ridiculous figures i'd put up my graph from jabbasport which reported my car running 279bhp and 306lb torque from a simple remap......

I like a bit of a kick & then power that holds for a while, not tail off fast like a deisel (although they are fun to drive, the wife has a ZR)

i have a revo its been on the car for at least 4 years!! ive had no no probs with it and i love the whole wiplash push u into the back seat effect?? i would be intrested to have a go in some of the others just to see how the remaps differ???????
