ARB rubbing on driveshaft answers?

ARB rubbing on the driveshaft is usually due to lowering beyond 40mm or so... assuming this is what you have done then adjustable drop links should be the answer... fitting different ARBs won't help, the prob will still be there...

It's a difficult area with no set answer but depending on the bars, fitting a different ARB will also help. The Eibach bar has bigger hoops then the standard giving more clearance over the drive shaft.

Eibach ARB's will indeed solve the issue, my car is sitting pretty low and I get no rubbing at all.

Don't get the 25/25 kit though, the one to go for is 22 front and 25 rear, it gives the best balance of handling. I've got a 26mm H&R front bar at the moment, and compared to my old 22mm eibach it's too big to work perfectly with the 25mm eibach rear. I need to either go up to a 28mm rear bar, or down at the front.

Second this - I had this problem and the drop links didn't do a thing.

I bought the whiteline ARB from DPM for my A3 when I had it, and that was the only thing that cured the problem. Not to mention improving rigidity...
 
Ok i've just ordered the 22mm/25mm Eibach ARB's on your recomendation :) hopefully they will solve the problem. I know my car is low but its getting really annnoying listning to the grinding noises!
 
hehe close to that now so we'll see how they go soon enough... Are they easy enough to change?

Eibach have just informed us that they've now stopped doing the 22mm front bar for the Golf 4 and now only do the 25mm front, would you like us to send you this out instead?

Completly agree. I bought some Adjustable drop links from DPM, What a load of *****. Ended up selling them on on egay. Definatly buy a whiteline ARB that goes under the drive shaft. Cured my problem :)
 
Well after receiving the ARB's on Monday, i fitted them Tuesday morning, took about 2 hours and the car does handle much better, 100% more positive but it does still ocasionally rub the drive shaft. I know its low... do you think adjustable drop links would work now considering there is much more room in the hoop than before?
 
If possible you need to try and measure what length the drop link would need to be to give you that clearance now you have the bigger hoops.

look at the position of the driveshaft within the hoop then you can determine whether you need to lengthen or shorten it
 
if its any help, the drive shaft sits towards the front of the hoop, where its attaches to the drop link (so i would need to lengthen the drop link?) its 100% better to drive tho! i'll admit that, just the odd grinding noise and clang as the 2 come together is really annoying!
 
well if its nearer the front (like mine actually), mine needs to be shortened and brought down to give me clearance again
 
wow £250 quidies. Is there a slightly cheaper option? as mine rub now when i have ppl in the car on full lock
 
standard ones are 10.5cm (hole to hole).

ill post up some pics, it looks like that when lowered shortened is the way forward.

im making up a modified set to see how it goes, i want to place the driveshaft back in the middle of the hoop. if it works ill be making up more to sell on

Dont spend time and money pi*sing about trying differnet parts. Just buy a whiteline ARB that goes under the drive shaft. Cured my problem
 
Ive got Eibach ARB's fitted now, not gonna shell out more cash on whiteline 1's

Going to have a peek tomorrow and see if i can figure a way around it.
 
LOL good luck m8ty. Your going to need it. I put money on you selling the Eibach ARB or fleebay and buying a whiteline one.

Sounds like youve followed the crowd and bought Eibach. Let me guess, you got coilovers too?

Made my own drop links a little shorter than standard, now its as sweet as a nut, no rubbing, bumping or clanking!

Happy man now!
 
Try putting full lock on turning right and going up in a multi-story carpark....
 
thats what screws me up turning right on full lock..

do whiteline do a set anywhere? can only see the front one.

If the front is only fitted is the handling ****? id imagine it would feel sloppy at the back?
 
i decided to buck the trend as usual. i went down VW and ordered a tt front arb for my golf

no further scrubbing with the driveshaft

i also changed to a 20mm (from 23mm), and the turn in response is much improved. i didnt even mention it to the gf and she noticed it

tt front arb cost me £55 from the dealer plus bushes

what about the back mate? oh and what TT is it? or if u have a part number thatll better. How low is the golf?

right the story starts with a gmax spring and damper kit. allegedly -40mm

turns out that it has lowered my car in the region of -80mm lol ride is still fantastic, as good as oe somehow but my car is now pretty damn low

had arb vs driveshaft issues. i got some adjustable drop links. i modded those to shorten them. they helps but didnt cure.

next i wanted an arb that went under the shafts. you get the ones that all the sheep usually buy and pay through the nose for but with that youd want to upgrade the rear as well to get rid of soem of the understeer

i decided to "downgrade" the 23mm gti item to a 20mm bar from a tt (part no is at home)

it goes straight on, no more scrubbing. my shortened drop links make it even easier but oe drop links can be used too

as for the golf. i cant get my fist between the subframe and the ground. scarily, the ride is like oe only with much reduced roll and ride height. WIN

is the TT rear suffient or should i try the gti rear or something?

if youre local feel free to test drive my car. im very happy with the outcome. the turn in is that much more responsive that even the gf noticed it. i was going to be changing the arbs all together but i wont now, the car has been sufficiently improved.
 
leave the rear all together. yours is 2wd so after market is the only way. drive my car and then decide if its necessary
 
im in milton keynes and ur in essex mate. if i ever go that way ill give u a shout. but ill take ur word for it dude :) it needs to be done either way so ill grab it and see how it goes.

so i need a TT 20mm front ARB and 2 bushes (subframe bushes?) and nuts possibly?

Later on ill probs get the whiteline one for the rear anyway or maybe the r32 one as thats 19mm should be better i think.

you want the arb and two bushes. ill post up the part nos tonight. i reused the clamps and bolts.

my old arb was corroded where it makes contact with the bushes. when i installed the new one i added plenty of grease/wax to a) keep it lubed and b) keep the water out
