2.0T drivers, what economy are you getting?

Still trying to decide between the 2.0T and 2.0TDI 170 on my next A3. Have heard some reports of very poor fuel economy on the 2.0T (as in sub-30mpg virtually all the time) but then the salesman at the dealer said his 2.0T A4 returns over 30mpg even when caned. My current 2.0TDI 170 has rather poor economy for a diesel, I've found, averaging around 33mpg with mainly urban driving.

If you have a 2.0T, please post your experiences and help me decide

My S3 averages around 30mpg on a normal day to day drive, cane it and looking sub 25 for sure, cane it for a long time and getting close to 20, though I quite often get 33 mpg per journey.
I use V power fuel though and is stage one that does help on mpg when driving generally, also DSG, though is suppose to help with using less fuel

in our 2.0t quattro which makes a big difference
we average around 31-33mpg daily driving if you drive like a mad man you will be looking at low 20's high teens
on a run you can get 40mpg on a run easily
depends how you drive. if your after economy why are you interested in a 2.0t petrol car????
don't make sense to me at all

I'm just wondering whether to go back to petrol for a change and, since the economy in my current diesel isn't what I'd hoped for, I thought I might switch if the economy penalty wasn't too great.

EDIT: Actually, scratch that. I've just worked out that the 2.0TFSI would cost me £45 a month more in company car tax compared to a 2.0TDI 170 with the same spec. Add in the inevitable increased fuel bill and I'll be looking at getting on for £100 a month more I reckon.

Gonna stick with the TDI 170 as I can't say I've ever found it lacking

My 2.0T is also with a stage one map which doesn't help the old fuel consumption, I rarely see 30MPG on my dash anymore.. Normally mid to high twenties... To be fair, it wasn't much greater before the mapping though!!

Well firstly I don't really get any noticable lag on my TDI 170 provided I keep it above 2k rpm. Secondly I test-drove a DSG before I got my current car and hated it I'm afraid. Fine whilst pressing on but far too hesistant in stop-start traffic, at junctions and whilst manouvering.

what software have you got?
mine has a bluefin re-map and is slightly better on fuel since uploading the map in December.

On the second trip on the DIS mines reads 34.4mpg. Never reset it since I ran it in and done 12,000mls now. I too have a blufin and it increased the mpg by 0.4mpg! Oh and thats a mix of driving in 2.0tfsi fwd.

I did a run from Derby to Peterborough just taking it easy to see what a less aggressive style did to my mpg, came out at 40.6 which I thought was pretty good for a 2.0T FWD.

I love my 2.0TDI 170

Fast enough for the time being, and still manage 45mpg on the motorways

I have a 2.0T with the mods you can see below. Its a sportback ( 40 kg heavier), with heavy R32 rep. wheels, and its quattro, but on my granny drive to work (cruise at 50mph most of the way, and some traffic in between) I can get over 40mpg.
On the way back from work, where I do 70mph for 10 miles, then loads of stop start traffic and a bit of easy coasting at the end i get 33-36 mpg easily.
my GIAC X flash map is actually more economical over 50 mph when cruising due to the extra low end torque.
When in town and booting its anything from 16-25. The non S3 2.0T is a lot cheaper then a diesel 2nd hand ( and a lot faster) so I would weigh up your mileage against the extra cost.

In the last 12 months I averaged 19.6 mpg (13.42 l/100km), that means visiting Q8 every 230 miles...That's what you get when you live and work in the same city.

Don't really mind though, it's an awesome car

I have Revo stage 1 and no its not a quattro.

Definately not lol, when hammering mine im geting around 16-17. However on a nice run at about 55-60 mph on a motorway mine will get around 33-34

Must say I'm a little dissapointed with my A3 TDi 170, was expecting an average in the 40's but all I can get on a 20 min run to work is 35!!

Yea urban mpg in the 170 isn't that great, but should still be better than a petrol turbo. But see my thread regarding the DIS accuracy on the 170 - I did a run in it yesterday and it showed 49.5mpg average but manually calcing it it was actually 57mpg. Using 15litres over 189miles.
