however i am a bit gutted as my nice a4 tdi as got a paint bubbling wheel arch drivers side ! :sadlike: .
& the pass rear is going now too !!. :keule:

so can you tell me what my car may be worth in part ex.
120k, all most full service history & nice & clean ( just back from a long drive & a few days away so it needs cleaning asap ) with half worn tyres ( good to exe cond alloys, runs nice sounds great.
its now got a audi arm rest & reverse parking sensors ( non audi but look so good & it as a display with sound for it too )

& what does the 2.5 tdi do to the MPG ? & what are parts like & how long do they last or cost please ( I,E wear & tear items brakes etc.... ?.

cheers all & thank you......

Have a play with Parkers price guide tool for some price ideas.

My 2.5 does 36 mpg pretty religiously with a DPT tuning box fitted (worth 3-5mpg) and I drive it quite hard and do all A and B road work, no motorways.

I service every 9k miles, and can't really comment on the brakes as they just seem to run and run. Can be quite heavy on tyres though like all quattro's.

I service my 2.5tdi 180 QS every 10k miles unless something needs replacing beforehand and I just service it while it's being checked. £170 for standard service, and recently paid £440 for all belts changed, new waterpump and service.

I'll give you a quick run down of my pro's and con's i've found in the 2 years i've owned mine.

Pros
Smooth engine and doesn't sound too bad for a diesel when on the move.
Engine pulls and pulls. And then pulls a bit more.
Quattro great in wet and snow
Handles decently for a big, heavy car
Sits a bit lower (20mm?) so looks a bit nicer than the non-sport (if that floats your boat)
Standard servicing parts (bosch etc...) surprisingly reasonable
Brake wear not bad. Did mine once in about 30k miles and still plenty on them. I think I paid £140 for discs and pads all round from memory.

Cons
As james said, can go through tyres quite quickly because it's a heavy car
Quattro is sensitive to tyre tread depth (only about 2mm difference in tread depth made mine drive poorly)
Some people find the suspension a bit hard on the QS
Engine bay is very tight, so servicing labour costs can be higher if the front end needs to be removed.
MPG not brilliant when compared with the 1.9tdi

All in all I think the plus points far out weigh the negatives to me. Also a fair few of us have had good experiences with tuning boxes.

more expensive to run,tax and maintain but lovely and smooth to drive in comparison with a 1.9, handling is a touch nose heavy due to a heavy engine, a remap or tuning box should see 220hp ish, if your thermostat goes which is quite a common thing in all audis the 2.5 one sits behind the cam belt so can be expensive. Brakes and general servicing parts are more expensive than a 1.9, i pay around £100 for service parts and do it myself thats including castrol edge oil 6 litres, oil, air, fuel and polllen filter so servicing cost arent to bad and as quattrojames says tyres are usually needed in pairs and they do wear the rears.

havent actually worked out what it does to the gallon, :lazy:guessing its in the 30's, but if your used to economical driving then you may get a shock, theres a lot buy a 2.5 and then wonder where all the fuel goes. lol

many thanks all, i had a scooby sti v4 import what cost a bit to run... .
so i know a bit about the tyres & fuel, but i get a good 47 to 52mpg on the trip on the m6 motherway !! ;), however with my work i need a nice car & the 2.5 q sport sounds very nice indeed.
( maybe about 30mpg or so around town ).
just the fuel but hay its only a bit less.

i get audi stuff at trade off a mate so costs are ok, i have some new disks & pads in the spare room for the 1.9 tdi so do they fit the 2.5 ? be nice if so he-he.

just seen one for 8k all most but thats my isa & saving gone on it, but it depands if i get 3k plus for mine ..... ;) in part ex with the bubbles etc.

prices vary due to spec and condition as you know, have a look on autotrader for a similar motor. oh and if you do get a 2.5 try and get the cambelt and tensioners, waterpums, thermostat etc done or see when its due and if soon then youve got a haggling point as that lot will set you back anywhere upto £600

the 2.5 TDI Quatrro Sport is an animal to own, they suck more fuel than a 1.9TDI but they are worth it when you see the world vanish in the mirror, my MPG is about 45 about town and 55 on motorways, not bad for a V6! my 180 has been chipped to about 233bhp.

wow if you get that MPG then that would do me, i am off to a audi dealer on thurs & see what they would offer me in a part ex.

just to see what they say, & if it is ok i will send the photos of my 1.9 tdi when i clean it later on thurs, to the 2.5 v6 dealer & see what they say about the bubble's.
& fingers crossed maybe get 3500 or so for mine if poss more... ;)

Hi,

MPG is very good on your car, is that on a manual or tip?

hmmm.... are you sure that's accurate? DIS reading or your own esitmate? If I drive like a saint, I can get 30-odd around town, and 40-odd on the motorway: to see anywhere near 50mpg, I need to trundle along at 50-60mph.... I don't drive like a saint and it seems to return 35-37mpg avg across a tank (DIS reading matched to actual consmption within a few percent!)....

Subaru Swift -

I moved from a Prodive Scooby (V Reg) to VW Golf (Still got this car). As the golf belongs to my brother now, I brought a 1.9tdi and drove this for around 3 years.

1.9tdi was a great car and it returned very good mpg (around 500 on a tank)

I have recently part ex the 1.9 and brought a 2.5tdi q Tip Avant. This is a great car and very smooth to drive.

1.9 vs 2.5

2.5 returns around 400 miles on a full tank and this is both city and dual carriage way driving (I do around 45 miles a day).

My DIS shows 28mpg around town and 35mpg on the motorway. This will go up after the dealer replaces the passenger side intercooler because it has a split. Currently the car is over fuelling a bit.

When I brought the 2.5, one of the turbo pipe had a split and this dropped my mpg to 19mpg (Town and motorway) - reminded me of the Scooby days.

The 2.5 does cost me a bit extra on fuel, £90 more on tax and around £150 more on insurance but it is worth it.

I will have the car serviced by Lion garage and they have quoted me around £130 for a small service and around £220 for a major service.

Hi,

Mine is manual mate, just a quick figure but it is good on fuel so far.
well coming from a scoobu it is ;) however if i lose a bit but i get a better car then so be it.

i wll be getting a re-map as my best mate does them, so i can get one for my car & make sure the map is more for better fuel then loads of power.

many thanks all for the input & help, just need to get a part ex price now for mine as the 2.5 is some miles from me so i need a rough price.

Will them bubbles coming through on the arch not be covered under the anti-corrosion warranty if the paint hasn't broke?

I'm supprised to see that amount of corrosion on a b6. That to me says they are not the original panels. A4s from B5 onwards just don't rust like that as they are galvanised from the factory. Has it been in a bump ?

hi no bumps as far as i know & i know they are bad for a audi but i hear off my mate who works as a mech in audi & someone in sales it does happen a lot... .

i am going to see them again on fri & ask them what i can do, as i have been offered a nasty 2250 pounds in a part ex on a 8k car ;(
well gutted, so it looks like i better save up some more some how & in the while get mine mot & put the disks & pads i have from audi on & give her a nice oil change etc.

& just run her untill i get her sprayed up one way or another, as i am looking about the £350 too £500 mark for the work 3 folks have told me, however saying that i know a bloke from brum who does one offs paints so maybe he can do it for me.
so the cars looks very nice again & maybe i can get a better part ex !!!.

easier said then done mate, i have never sold a car before.

just part ex them in ;(, i would be worried if they came back or said it was no good etc.... as some folks would try it on.

edit for bad spelling & grammer :eyebrows:

whenever i have sold cars the reciept always says sold as seen so there cant be any comebacks but its your preference, so long as your honest about everything there should be no comebacks

very true mate, i do that when i sell pc stuff or anything esle.

but a car is a car big money, so i will have to get a fair price for it maybe £4 k ? does that sound fair in the state it is or should i go lower ?.

cheers

oh too much to think about i need some food me thinks.

What have you done to get that power? And has it been rolling roaded or is it an estimate?

Good mpg too....

That's a very nice car and a good price.

I think the early engines suffered cam wear. They revised the cams on the BAU engines.

I paid 11800 for mine but it was fully loaded with 59k and full audi (see sig) and I got £5000 for my 1.9tdi.

cheers mate, can i be cheeky & ask what year yours is ? ( pm you if like ).

also is the cam wear a big issue,,,, you got me a bit worried.

fingers crossed it will be ok but i said that about my scooby sti v4 import & she needed a full rebuild etc. not good as i am putting in all my money & some of my folks in this deal, so it as got to be the right car etc.

also who or what company can i take or ask to look at the 2.5 as i am good with pc's but not cars.

Car looks nice, cambelt interval is 80k according to Audi (personally I feel 60k is plenty) so bank on £500 ish for that.

Ive had an AKE engine for 3 years and had no cam troubles, although it can be an issue as long as it's regularly serviced it 'should' be ok.

i will see what as been service on sat & report back to you lot asap, as i have a feeling the cam belt might be done all ready ( hope so as i have no money if i get this car.

however i allways carry out a full oil change every 5k or 10 months, on all me cars just to be safe/

Hi,

Mine is a 2004 (Registered in March 04)

Silver Avant.

After I brought mine I took it to Lion Garage for a checkup.

But since last week the passenger side intercooler has split so MPG is gone down. Going back to the dealer tomorrow to have this sorted.

I asked the Audi dealer in London to send all the old reciepts for all the work done on the car. From the receipts the previous owner looked after this car and spent loads on the service, new maf, tyres etc.

many thanks i will ask audi on sat if i can do the same & get the service if it as gone there, but will they tell me if i do not own the car yet ?.

pity about the intercooler mate :( hope you get it sorted out & what price is audi telling you for one ?.

do you know some in the trade who can get them at cost, as my mate who does auto elecs & remaps gets me some knocked off audi parts ( not much but it all helps ).

from what the service is listed on the web site for the 2.5 it looks like it as been looked after too, fingers & toes crossed.

Hope it goes well mate.

My intercooler is being done by the dealer where I brought the car from (Audi Specialist) - being done under warranty.

As with trade price - I get this with my local TPS. I ask for trade price and he sells it to me.

With regards to old reciepts/invoices. I phoned the Audi delaer and explained to them I have brought the car but I have no invoices to see what work has been done. If they get a bit funny then you can send a copy of the purchase invoice of your new car to prove you now own the car.

With my car the previous owner paid £1277 for big service inc new tyres!!
All the other invoices are around the £1000 mark - I guess it's London so higher prices.
The previous owner paid silly amounts for litte things, ie Brake switch - £150, MAF - £350, MOT - £100.

No mate, as the bloke rang me up & said some one as just got it.... .

however i have got this now yayyy :w00t: :eyebrows: :wub:

there is a small dent on the pass side front arch too ( but i am going to sort that out next week !! ).
