Interior smells like ****

Unfortunatly my car got loaded with garbage bags, which must have had months old food, off milk and maybe a rat or two.

Roughly 8 bags, all of them leaked (please dont ask I'm so upset right now) into the boot and back seats. So I took it to the albanians who spent 3 hours on it and paid £40.

Smell has gone a bit, but still smells foul. The last time I had this problem the windows were down all night while it rained and it had a damp smell, I found a guy called Auto Detox who spent about 5 hours on it and fixed the problem, cost me £70.

Now I have paid £40 so far, should I just call him up and fork out the £70? Or is there something else I can do.

Really am gutted as I Just changed the brakes, pads, fluid, oil change and its running like brand new, then this happened ..

So far I left the call on full heat for 35 mins, helped only a little.

I do have a steamer, should I use car shampoo on the interior and steam the seats/interior?

I have an idea; use washing powder for clothes + my steamer?

The only way to remove smell, is removing the source of the smell.

Did the albanians use a carpet cleaner? That should do the trick. Should use a ozon-regenerator as well.

Yeah a shampoo carpet cleaner vacuum, so gutted seriously I just started loving my car again.

Set yourself a timeframe and if no one can offer a workable solution then contact that guy for 70 quid. At least you know his work and you can start loving your motot again

On a serious note though, didnt the thought even come across your mind to put some plastic sheeting down beforehand, I mean without trying to sound funny but they are garbage bags months old, I mean seriously mate, who does that.

Dont ask us mate, just get the pro out to sort it for yer cause ******* in the wind with albanians, poles, lithuanians, you know what I mean, side road car washers, who tbh mostly dont know how to do these things properly, wont get you smiling again, stump up the 70 squid, take it on the chin & learn from the mistake.

Once he's done you'll be happy you did it, the pro cleaner that is, not the garbage bags

Unfortunatly (or fortunatly) for a few of you, your humour falls into a canyon where only the tumbleweed may bask in such words.

Well if you dont like our humour then may I suggest...

If the spillage is still damp then sprinkle bicarbonate of soda on it, leave it for a bit, scub it, then clear up with clean water. Or you could also try a biological washing powder in the same way.

After both of these it is wise to use a dehumidifier in the car for a day to ensure that all moisture is sucked out of the carpets properly (leaving windows open on a hot day is not always successful). The less moisture left the less smell you will be left with.

Unless you rinse the bio washing liquid out you (and get the bicarb up) will get marks on the fabric. Washer vac and a odour neutralising liquid (just dont use anything other than suitable for the washer vac lol or it will be foam city and it never goes and the vac clogs) to go in it, takes about 2 goes over it to get rid but if the smelly stuff has had chance to soak in you will need to really wet it all to suck it up or it will stay in the lower parts of the fabrics. Wait for a hot day, start early and let it dry.

Sprinkle Bicarbonate Soda al over the area the bags were in, and leave the windows/boot open for a few hours during the day. Hoover up the Bicarb, and just some sort of carpet scrub.

That should do the trick.
