just to add i wasnt aware this was an argument? thought the title stated this was a discussion. sort it out geeza.
 
We are discussing, well, I am.

I am putting across valid points why the soldiers deserve accolade when they make the ultimate sacrifice, and other job related deaths don't.

I have a cousin in the army and her sister is a psychiatric nurse and imo they are worlds apart. The soldiers have people out to kill them who are armed where as nurses and van drivers and anyone else its an accident or down to negligence. ie how was someone in his condition given access to a knife to stab someone and I hardly think that a van driver killed in an RTA can be used in the same context as a sniper taking a shot at a solider! although still a tragidy I hardly think that they can be compaired! a good friend of mine in the marines was almost killed by an ied a few weeks ago only saved by his mate being closer to it and soaking up the blast and no he wasnt so lucky! these soliders have people out there whos only aim is to cause them harm and kill them, and last time I had something delivered from ebay I don't remember hearing the driver having to take such a risk, otherwise I'm sure I would have been charged alot more for P&P!

and although its their choice if my cousin or friend who are both currently serving in afganistan were killed I would like there deaths to be known in the media and their sacrifice on the record!
we all have to put up with idiots on the roads and phycos to some extent but we don't get shot at on a daily basis

I believe thats why health and safety laws were brought in and so the driver shouldnt be rushing and the boxes shouldn't be over filled! our brave soliders fighting for our queen and country don't get such luxury...

(3) im eating my pie, and last of all, it was a quote regarding a long lasting convo within my local pub and other family members i thought i would share. People ad there opinions if they agree or not and a discussion is formed.

Unfortunatly... you have turned it into a bitch fest and i aint biting mate. You clearly voiced your opinion many posts ago and you wont quit till you have the last word. This will prob be locked now too. i aint out to prove nothing or rectify my self to you, and there is not a correct answer to it either thats why there called opinions. Why dont you just let the thread roll and be done with it and stop being a pilchard!

hi mate. im not disputing what you have written at all, i agree that they are special people and they have a very difficult job. What i was trying to put across was there are many trades (i purposely put random low wage jobs in the quote) that people do that dont get recognition. Im not saying everyones death should be broadcast far from it. My younger cousin recently lost her hubby at war and it devistates her to see every other soldiers death shown on the tv. Not the mention on the news, i mean, the cams at the airport, the cams following them up the motorway, the cams at the funerals etc. I just dont understand why the press have to do it to some of the soldiers. they dont all get that treatment so why are others special from others??? let them go, let the families morn in piece.

its in your thread title! You did ask for opinons "good or bad" on a public forum. sidibear gave his opinon and then you "kicked off" and then resorted to name calling

I agree with you that the media are blood thirsty when it comes to this. and my heart sinks when I hear it on the news thinking it might be my cousin or my mate! I think if the media hadn't got so involved then this conflict could have been ended more quickly as they can't do there job properly when there is a reporter following them around. the media lead by fear and have the most shocking stories to try to make us tune in. I don't believe the media should be censored but I do think that they should be made responsible for some of there actions and stories they run!

Plank eh? Obviously you cannot no longer hold a mature discussion so are resrting to insults, just like you asked for it not to decend into.

You wanted a discussion, I gave you one. Its just that you have no valid points to back up your original quote.

:readit:well ok but that wasn't clear to me when I read your first post. to me it implied that service men or women shouldn't be reacognision in the paper or media unless some little old lady who slipped on a banana peel with a tea spoon in her mouth made the headlines as well. its all a tragidy but alot of people die every day and that what the abituary coloum is for and the soldiers dieing for a cause (be it good or bad) is more headline news that a courier crashing trying to deliver an iPod because a human life is worth more than an ipod, where as the freedom of our country on the other hand....

the kicking off bit was reference to the pie & plank posts! I didn't feel that they added to the discussion other than just cause a personal attack. altho I think it was probably said as a joke and in jest to lighten the mood

I was being philosophical with whole quote thing :) No attacks mate, i just dont like people trying to mug me off thats all, people trying to change the words i type into somthing into a different meaning is a bit uncalled for i think, especially on such a topic. I indeed asked for opinions and i am getting them for which im greatful. Wish i could spell better tho, maybe thats why M&S Point me in the direction of netto...coz i cant spell?? ?? (sarcastic humour before i get cained for that!)

i have to say im with you on this one alpine but i can see where every one is coming from. I think il join you down the pub mine is a coke as i dont drink and alpine how do you get your kids to bed at this time my 7 year old stay up till 11 at times lol
 
All i see here is varying opinions, if the OP cannot stand any opinion other than their own, it makes for a very one sided conversation IMHO.

I'm not sure which end of the stick you are getting dude, I was merely asking if it was wrong to not have an opinion on the subject. Death is a touchy subject for some, and as such, would get mixed reactions from different people.

I've been watching the thread since you started it, but I have not posted anything until now, does that mean I don't have an opinion on it?
