Hi all,

I had Revo stage 1 installed yesterday (59 plate S3 with DSG) and I have to say that so far I`m not that impressed, when I remapped my old Focus ST the difference was astronomical but with the Revo the S3 does not feel that much faster than standard to be honest.
Does it start to loosen up over time or does this indicate that something is not quite right? I am going to give the car a few days but if it still feels the same by the start of next week I may take it back to the Revo dealer and ask them to take a look .... or am I just expecting too much?
Opinions appreciated please.

It depends on how they have set your car up, I got to say with mine it made a substantial difference, and even more notable when it was removed. but with that engine there is not a great deal you can do on a DSG at the bottom end, (ofc unless you spend an arm and leg), but after 2.5k revs you should notice a difference for sure all the way up to the red line.

I had my S3 Revo'd (Stage 1) last week and as part of the remap, some elements of the ECU are reset so the car has to re-learn various settings such as fuel octane, timing and other settings, some even relating to your individual driving style etc. AMD advised that you need about 4 hours of driving time before it's all settled so make sure you've given it at least this long...

With that said, my S3 has always felt quick and I even ran some data through VCDS to check if it wasn't already mapped. Turns out it wasn't and I've only done a couple of hours driving since the map and can already feel a huge improvement in performance :). Whoever mapped your car should've checked first to ensure it hadn't been mapped previously and would've also checked the car on the road to make sure all was running well before mapping it.

If everything else checks out ok then as a last gasp hope, your car will be slower in hot weather so today isn't the best day for comparison!

Hope that helps,
Pete.

Needs time to adapt just give it a few miles and then you will see magic happen!

It should feel MUCH quicker straight away.
If it doesnt then something is wrong.
Maybe the settings are incorrect?

Go back to the REVO agent and have it checked, including the settings.

For your info I am running.

Boost 7
Timing 6
Fuel 9

Always ran on Shell VPower and the car does improve further as the ECU adapts

Good luck

Paul

if it was already mapped wouldn't the tuner have realised? As said you need a few hundred miles for the ECU to fully adjust to the new parameters. but check there's not faults such as with the diverter valve.

Like PaulAR said check what settings you are running. If I put my car back into stock mode it feels extremely slow so I am guessing your settings may not have been configured correctly.

All,
Thanks for the replies, the car has defo not been mapped before as I had the car brand new. I seem to recall the boost setting as being 6 but can`t remember the other 2 (although I was asked about what fuel I use - VPower) so as I said I will give the car a few days and then if need be i`ll go back to the Revo authorised dealer and ask them to check the car over (for info the car was taken for a test drive before the map was installed). I plan on giving it a decent run tomorrow morning so hopefully that will help, fingers crossed.
Again thanks

I had mine ('10 S3 Manual) remapped with Revo software at AmD 2 weeks ago. I too was a bit underwhelmed for the drive home (about 30 miles) but I took it up to the Peak District the next day for the weekend, did a 500 mile round trip and by the time I was home I can assure you I was noticing a huge difference, and this weekend I had the chance to put it to work around the country lanes and I love it even more.

So maybe some take a bit longer to settle after the ECU is reset than others, I dont know, but give it a couple of hundred miles before you make judgement.

Also, did you not not get a rolling road print out before and after the remap? I did, and that quite clearly shows the difference!

I asked about a rolling road session but the dealer only had a 2 wheel drive setup so it could not be done, when I arrived the car was taken out and checked to see how it runs followed by connecting to VCDS to ensure there were no reported problems with the ECU. Then the remap and configuration was done followed by again connecting to VCDS to clear all the errors that the remap produced and then the drive home, my concern stems from the comparison made when I had my Focus ST remapped. When that was done the results were instantly apparent whereas with the Revo it just feels like a slight increase in torque rather than all out power. I am hoping it gets better but at the moment I feel underwhelmed as obviously the way everyone goes on about Revo I am expecting huge gains. Time will tell (as will a trip back to the dealer if need be!).

Hehe that's funny Nick... would you believe AmD Surrey said they don't recommend rolling road checks anymore as they now see it as an uncessary risk with all the cooling required, risk of cars jumping off (!) etc. and that the ECU now measures everything and has all the safeguards and checks so you don't need to test power directly anymore. Could just be because Surey don't have a 4WD rolling road and Essex do!

So out of interest, what was your before & after BHP at the wheels?

Well in fairness the guy who first served me said it wouldn't include a rolling road, but when I questioned it Ben piped up from the back of the office and said "he's the lad from the Audi Sport forum, we do the rolling road for those guys" They don't need to do it as the Revo software just gets downloaded and standard settings applied, especially if it's just a stage 1.

My first run was 273bhp and 269lb/ft, following the re-map it was showing 306bhp and 299lb/ft. Ben said that will increase bu about 12-15bhp once the ECU has settled and it sure feels like it has over the last week or two actually.

How was yours?

Thats interesting Paul, mine was set up for V Power but my settings are:

Boost 6
Timing 5
Fuel 9

I wonder what difference that makes between the two cars...?

I have the same settings as you and couldnt quite get the timing to 6 as when we did this, it was over correcting and they said that this was due to needing new spark plugs. When I had mine installed, I did 4 or 5 flat out runs for 10-15 mins to make sure everything was perfectly set up and by the time we were done, it was really noticeable how much difference there was.

Mine is running well Nick - no rolling road for me but good service from AMD and really noticable improvement (still haven't done 4 hours driving so more to come)... There's a definite increase in boost but car feels somehow smoother too... like everyone says, feels like it should have come from the factory like this...

My settings are:

Boost 7
Timing 5
Fuel 7

Surprised you all have Fuel 9 as I use the 99 RON from Tesco which should be more than a match for VPower... Still not worried - car is getting better by the day and I'm already saving for induction kit & exhaust :)

I have just taken it for a bit of a run down a duel carriageway and I can definately say that there is not much (if any) noticable difference, admittedly I have not done many miles since the remap but I cannot see how the ECU adapting will make that much difference, ok maybe it might smooth things out a bit but the shove that I am expecting should be there right from the off (in my opinion anyway) so as I said before if things do not improve significantly by the weekend it`s back to the Revo dealer for me!

must be something wrong if thats the case. i'd take it back to whoever remapped it and see what can come of it.

Well for me after I had mine flashed it did feel a bit quicker but after 60-80miles the car felt like a demon!

Need I say more

Doesn`t matter how good the product is, if the dealer gets it wrong, then you will be disappointed.

In that scenario, you should draw the dealers integrity into question, not the product.

How many times do we hear AUDI dealers making an **** of the product? Too many by all accounts.

So does that mean AUDIS are suspect or the dealer?

Answers on a postcard to the usual address.........

Cheers
Paul

I got a beutiful set of brand new face lift S3 alloys today Paul....can i be in your gang now ?

As has been mentioned above 1st port of call the dealer and the DV but surely they should have noticed the DV or did they/you not take it a test drive when it was done? also have they done the DSG software upgrade otherwise its just going to change up when it starts motoring will it not?

I have just taken the car back to Aldon Automotive to check my Revo settings and everything was set correctly (Boost = 6, Timing = 4, Fuel =9) so they checked the diverter valve (apparently it`s common for them to split) but this was also ok.
Revo suggested taking the car out for data logging so that the settings can be changed to a safe limit and they have now been amended to Boost = 7, Timing = 6 and Fuel = 9. Now the car feels much better and hopefully as the ECU adapts it will get even better with time :)
Also, I can`t praise Aldon Automotive enough, the service was fantastic and they didn`t charge for checking the car over or the data logging. If anyone in the West Midlands area needs a good tuning company I would certainly recommend checking them out

Boost - 7 Timing - 6 Fuel - 9 were the settings that Revo put on mine when I got the car remapped by them. I can definitely notice the difference..Just wondering how come you actually started off with 6 - 4 - 9 ..They also put 9 - 7 - 9 for when I'm running good fuel with cool weather.
