hello..ive just bought a green v reg 1.8t quattro a3 with 77 on..

im toying with the idea of 200+ bhp nearly straight away just dont know which is the best approach?

im thinking de-cat back over, filter and remap i just need to know whats best wether a down pipe etc would be needed and which filter/remap is better also bov's which is the better one as im new to all this turbo carry on lol

im from newcasle so for remaps if anyone knows a good place plese let me know

cheers, Dan

Depends on your budget....and whether you have a K03s turbo

Most folk go for;

3" downpipe
"performance" filter

front mounted intercooler

Go for a remap provider who is local, just incase there are issues

post 2001 i think is when the k03s came in standard on the tqs's, if youve got the k03 then just under 200bhp is the most you can expect, put a k03s on ( straight swap with fmic and bigger brakes and a remap, some people would say fit an exhaust but for a few more hp and better breathing i dont reckon its worth £600. thatll bring you up near 220bhp

The K03S came standard on the AUM engine.

On a 99 'V' you will most likely have a cable throttle AGU engine. They are the early engines with a K03-011.

For good power, you will need:

K03S turbo @ ~£250 (as mentioned, straight swap for your turbo - no other parts needed).

Silicone TIP. ~£80

Front mount intercooler. Turbo revs kit can be got for £200 on ebay.

3" downpipe and decat. ~£100 on ebay from Belgium.

Good induction kit.

A map to suit. R Tech would be the one I would recommend. Sadly they are a way from you, but they do have a specialist map for the AGU with K03S turbo.

cheers for that lads is it ok to fit a k03s without fmic? or is that needed? just if its an easy job swapping them id rather buy that first then pay for fmic?

budget isnt really a problem i just want it to be quick as **** really

whats best to buy first? fmic or turbo?

sorry, but I have to say:
budget - not important
quick as ****
?

You should have bought something fully loaded.

With regards to sticking a perf exhaust I would agree with emer1990, expensive with limited and questionable results and normally a lot noisier. I'd rather be quite and disappear into the horizon and not end up with a headache after a short motorway trip. Noisy perf exhaust just remind me of the old boy racer days !

its just insurance mate im only 20 and to be fair paying 1500 - 2000 for anything as you say fully loaded i just cant justfy thats why ive went for something abit more sensible but with a fair tuning potential and because its only ever golfs you see round here lol audi was abit different!

budget isnt that important but in the same way i dont mean 1000's just dont mind chucking a good few hundread quid into a car thats gona be worth it. As for exhausts i had a k-tec stealth on a 172 and that was loud enough...a loud audi would look and sound naff imo anyway

cheers for the advice though...im not sure wether to go for all the fmic and turbo etc if i can remap it to 200 for 250 quid??? when its another 650 without labour for 20 or so bhp more is there a real difference in it or not?

welly, has a silicon tip actually been dynod and shown to gain?
welly,

welly,

Not on a dyno dude no, but through VAG COM logging, yes. Also, as a side issue, the K03 tip won't fit a K03S, as the hole is slightly bigger, making it necessary really.

If you an get a K03S with a TIP attached then great, otherwise you're stuffed.

But, in all fairness, the K03 and K03S TIPs are VERY restrictive, and the bend in then is very tight and narrow. I definitely got more airflow through my K03S setup with a silicone TIP, by around 10+ g/s.

I think many who have done the same would agree.

Plus the spool up sound is loads better!

Not the best photo, but an old one I have. This is a K03S turbo with the K03S standard TIP. You can see how restrictive it is.

And you think modifying your car will not mean the same insurance costs as something as quick, but designed that way i.e S3?

So you're basically saying you're not declaring your mods to your insurance company?

im saying nothing who are you? lol yes iam mate i dont know anyone who does

no i know people with all kinds of cars that have nothing declared from 1.0 corsa with wheels and bodykit to stuff like fully modded subarus....just what people do ive known a lad to get pulled in a bora and told to take everything off it but hes the only one! aslong as its engine stuff whos going to know? as for loss of money then if it breaks its breks at least you havent forked out for something which MIGHT go wro yes?

In a word, no.

If you crash into some poor unsuspecting person and the insurance go over your car with a fine tooth comb (as they will do, trying to get out of paying out) they will find your mods, void your insurance and leave you to foot the bill.

I have been involved in an accident with an uninsured driver, which is basically what you are. Sorry to go all "high horse" on you, but you are the reason insurance sky rockets every year and people like me end up massively out of pocket.

You asked for advice on a few things. Let's start with GET INSURANCE.

yep your right there mate...so with all those upgrades to the a3 the insurance surely would rise at least 1000? am i right? or does it not change alot?

I dont think it changes that much, i think there's quite a few people on here with a mod not declared, may be very little which will still void their insurance. Your twenty, so may put it up a few hundred pound. I didn't declare my brakes when i had them on my car, just forgot in the end, would of voided my insurance though.

Its your risk at the end of the day. But a 200bhp tqs want be fast as **** though mate,

cheers emery...my mate had a golf which was just remapped and it was quick enough tbh but i just want it to be that extra bit lol where can i get a silicone tip from i cant find 1?

sick.

if i get a ko3 silicon tip but change to a ko3s one day (yknow, a ko3s may just fall into my engine bay) would i need a new silicon ko3s tip then?

what are the tips for welly? im not that hooked up at all with turbos...so mine should just be able to be stretched straight over off my original aye?

all my mods declaired cost me £45 extra a year! coz you really wouldnt wanna be the un-insured driver that hit me up the backside with my kids in the car coz he was to busy watching his mate in his 1.0 corsa trying to catch him up .... Innit bludz!

hes twenty though, i couldnt get insured if i had had a remap without paying over 2k
