I know there are loads of post's re VAGCOM but i have have looked through a few but cant find what i am looking for. I have just bought a cheap lead from ebay for my 53plate A3 2.0 TDI. I am looking to put the alarm beeps on and get me home lights, can anyone advise me if i can do this with the lead i have, any help is appreciated!!! This is the lead i bought http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120576762476

you will need a license for the VCDSLite software that you should be using with that lead. You cannot make coding changes with the shareware version of the program.

ok, iv bought the full ross tech software and lead but it only lets me see fault goes for the engine only!!!! am i doing something wrong????

As the web page tells you where you registered, you are supposed to test and verify that you can access all the modules before you buy/register. Obviously, you didn't take the time to read that and do it.

Here are some other questions intended to narrow the possible reasons for the software not to access the modules:
Got an after market radio?

Did you try accessing the modules one at a time or only through an autoscan?

What year is a 53 plate and/or what are the 7&8 characters of the VIN number?

You sure the wire you have supports both Klines?

From where may we ask, so we can verify its a genuine cable as there are alot of crap cables out there & you may have been duped.

NHN, in his OP, he shows the link to the aftermarket KKL style OBDII wire which is supposed to be compatible with the old version 409. His issue is that he never tested his wire fully before he went and bought a full license and now he is unhappy because it does not work.

His issue is the hardware of the wire, or he has an issue in the diagnostic port of the car. Most times it is the wire.

So, what's a 53 plate? Could it be that he has a CAN based diagnostic port on this Audi? Are we talking like a B7 A4? If so, it would act pretty much like he is talking about. Some of the B7 modules are on old style K-Lines and some are on CAN and some are just PITA to get to talk. But, we dealt with that in our full VCDS genuine RT products.

Since the OP has not answered, I presume he found the problem.

Sorry guys been busy with work, i have 53plate, 8p is the 7th&8th number from my vin. Standard audi cd player. Hopefully one of u clever guys can help?

ahhhhhhh iv just found out what i have done wrong, my car is on a 2003 plate but its the 2004+model on 8p. im gonna have to get a HEX-USB+CAN lead for it to work. Thanks guys for all your help. PS i only got the car last week so i have jumped in to quick.!!!

8P = MicroCAN or HEX-USB+CAN

Gendan is the only UK distrib that sells the MicroCAN.

NHN on here sells the HEX-USB+CAN as does most of our other UK distribs.

The interface you have will never work on your car.

Think maybe you misunderstood my comment Bruce, my post was based on his original comment of buying a cable, then he states as above " I've bought the full ross tech software and lead" which to me meant he'd gone & got another cable that was indeed now genuine with the license, see my point mate.

Anyway now we know why.

8p is the 7th&8th number from my vin.

Explains it now huh

im gonna have to get a HEX-USB+CAN lead for it to work.

I sell the Hex-Can-USB cables, counterfeits only bring you problems & wasted money, take my advice & buy genuine which I sell & you'll never look back in anger.
