Cruise Control - worth £1000??

Hi guys,

Seen 2 A4s that I like, similar mileage and age (about 1 year old) but different colours.

Option 1 - has cruise control, on sale for £20K
Option 2 - no cruise control, on sale for £19K

Is cruise control worth £1000? Bear in mind I'm aiming to buy a car that will give the strongest residuals when the time comes to sell.

Cruise is only good on motorway or long journeys!

You could get cruise retro-fitted for far less. Personally it wouldnt put me off a car if it didnt have cruise.

My 2nd hand A4 didnt have cruise. I asked for it and they quoted £450, then he dropped it to £250 and we said, "You fit it for free, we'll take it" and they did. Good deal I thought. Hold out. Even though Audi are popular and they dont need to "Sell" them, they still want to make sales.

Its a simple change of column with an added stalk and a reprogramme of the brain. I love the cruise. It even brakes you if you set it at 30 and begin to speed up, a boon as where I live there is a steep hill on a 30, I set it at 30 and it keeps me there. Brill

This is my first car with cruise con and i have to say it is top noitch dont know how i survived without it previously!!!

I would not pay £1000 for cruise con though,are the cars exactlly the same spec,age,same mileage and colour all these things will have a factor on the price i really cannot see a car being £1000 more expensive just because it has cruise con option.

I've done a search on here and realised that cruise control can be retrofitted for £250ish (would it invalidate the warranty if done by a non-Audi dealer)?
Didn't realise that I could actually haggle over the list price of a car, thought my bargaining power lay with getting a better value in part-ex!!
Another thing, the 20K car is a 59 plate while the 19K car is a an 09 plate however, only 1-2 months between them reg wise, does that make a massive difference? The 20k car is grey and the 19k car is red. 20K car has 3000miles more than 19k car!

I bought my 09 plate that was registered in June 09. Mine annoyingly didnt come with LED tail lights bearing in mind that in June 09 they started to come to the dealer with LED's so I missed out so that might be one thing to check if your interested. You can retrofit but theyre £450 + to buy and then more on top to fit so worth paying a little extra. They look good and last longer than bulbs.

Personally I'd have the Grey one and tell him you'll give him £19,000 and ****** well like it. 3000 miles is nothing really, I've had mine for just over 6 weeks and done 2500 so it means nothing plus the reason its more is it is a 59 and not 09. Of course it will fetch a bit more when you come to sell it.

Nope. If the modification caused an issue then that issue wouldn't be covered.

However there is the risk that when your car goes in for a service the codes get reset back to how it came out the factory. I'm not sure this has happened to anyone and I'd demand it be fixed but there is a risk of that.

I certainly wouldn't choose between the cars just based on the CC.

The later plate, Metallic (assuming the Red is Solid) and the 17" Alloys/Upgraded stereo will probably give you more of a return than the Cruise Control, the fact it all comes in the one package is a bonus and unless you really want a red car I'd go for the Grey. Also when haggling look at the cost of change for each car (ie how much you will actually be paying and not simply the price of the new car or the price of the PX) and negotiate that figure, because that is the only one that counts in the end

I thought you haggle over the p/ex, then haggle the purchase price - indirectly haggling over the cost of change? The difference in purchase price would simply reflect the cost of change, no?

No, my point is that if you get a great deal on p/x it is doubtful you will get much off the price of the new car, likewise a big discount on the new car will likely result in a low p/ex offer. Therefore there is little point negotiating on both ends of the deal far more effective and quicker to negotiate on trying to minimise the amount of new money you have to add to your old car to get the new one (after all this is the figure that ultimately matters to you!). How the dealer chooses to apportion the discount given against the old car and new is simply an internal accounting issue and of no concern to you.
