Use - Mostly road, couple of track days per year

And how often would you recommend changing the oil (ie. every 7500km/5000m or so)?

:icon_thumright:

15,000km set intervals.

Same as our GTI. I change the oil on the GTI myself at half intervals. So am guessing the same will apply to the S3 too.

Hi, whats best for my 2001 B6 Audi A4 1.8T. It has 77K on the clock, runs 10,000 mile fixed interval.

It has no internal modification, but it does have aftermarket chip work that has eased the 150bhp up to about 180bhp-190bhp approximately.

The cost of the oil is not an issue. What is the very best stuff for my car engine to ensure long life and happy motoring?

Cheers

Andy

Hi, I know this isnt exactly oil related, but im hoping you can put my mind at rest. I have just bought an 06 A4 1.8t petrol, and im now working away with my wife driving it. My worry is her putting diesel in the petrol engine( as our last car was diesel). Is this possible do you know? I know you can put petrol in the diesel engine by mistake, and you can buy a device to prevent you from doing so, but cant seem to find any info about accidentally putting diesel in the petrol tank. Any info greatly appreciated.

In theory the nozzels are different siezes so that it should not happen, but it does. If it does happen it all depends how much has gone in there. If she fills the tank then you have a problem, it will need to be drained and flushed.

I've only just bought this, and i had a look at the oil, and it is BLACK. Despite the service manual being kept up to date, I doubt this has had an oil change in the last 10,000mi.

I suspect its on a longlife service, every 20K. Just do it every 7.5 - 10k much nicer to the engine.

here's one for ya oilman....

Model - Audi A3 3.2 V6
Year - 2004 (78k miles on clock)
Mods - Standard
Use (road/track) - normal road use, 6/7k per year
dont plan on doing "longlife" servicing, just oil & filter change every 12 months, regardless of miles.

What kind of oil (grade etc) do you reccommend? I'm new to diesel!! :)

Thanks
J

Yes, that sounds like the longlife service schedule. We're hearing a lot of things about sludge build ups etc from the longlife schedule, JoeDredd is right just change it a bit more often.

If you want to clean it out, the best thing you can do is drain out the oil that is in there, put in some cheap (the cheapest you can find) mineral oil and run the car for 15 minutes so the oil gets nice and warm. After running it, drain out the mineral oil and put in the correct oil.

After that I'd run the car on a 505.01 or 507.00 (but change it before the car tells you to)

505.01 - http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-751-vw-50501-oil.aspx
507.00 - http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-754-vw-50700-oil.aspx

They are all good oils, so make your decision based on any brand/price preference you have.

Cheers

It's not always the grade, it should meet the VW diesel specs. 505.01 is for the PD engines, 507.00 is for longlife servicing, or PD engines fitted with diesel particulate filters. Pre-PD engines aren't too fussy and are usually happy on a 5w-40 or 10w-40

Thanks a lot!

Btw your links require a login.. :\

What does PD stand for? (sorry to be a nuisance!)

And for draining the oil, is it just simply the case of opening up the sump plug and letting it run out?

Edge 5w-30 is a very good choice, but I would still change it sooner than the offical service schedule.

Jonay, I'm not sure why it's asking you to log into those links, they should be fine and only ask you to login to buy. Anyone else have that problem?

PD stands for Pumpe Deuse, basically a high pressure oil pumping system

I change it every 5-7.5k is that often enough?

Hi

I would use a 5w-40 synthetic and you will find those through the link below.

5w-40 engine oil | 5w40 oil
Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XFS, Fuchs Supersyn, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

I need to give the girl a full service in the next month. What oil would you recommend using? I have about 30lts or so of VW's Platinum

Cheers

Hi

The oil you need depends on the service schedule the car is on. If it is on an annual/10k miles service, you need an oil that meets the 502.00 specification. If it's the variable service schedule, you need an oil that meets the 504.00 spec.

502.00 - VW - Engine Oil - 502.00 (502 00)
504.00 - VW - Engine Oil - 504.00

The 504.00 oils are all good oils, so make your decision based on any brand/price preference you have. With the 502.00 oils, go for a 0w-30, 5w30 or 0w-40 or 5w-40.
