My AC seems to have gone on the blink - would taking it to Kwik fit be a wise first option?

To be honest I have no experience with them. I don't think there have been any bad reviews though.

I would advise reading my FAQs thread to give yourself some basic knowledge that may help you along the way.

Let us know how you get on though please :icon_thumright:

I took mine to Nationwide Autocentre a month or so back for a full aircon service and regas.

I had problems with the car and needed Audi to have a look and at the same time the aircon wasn't working and they wanted around 100 quid to regas.

So I took it to Nationwide instead who were doing full service and regas for £69. After about an hour and a half of waiting, I got told they couldn't regas it and so I was expecting a bill. However, they said they wouldn't charge me and off I went.

Have no clue on how Kwik Fit works though so I can't comment on them.

I have just had my car regassed at Kwik Fit. but due to it not working, they gave me a full refund. Or...they would re-gas it again for free after i had it fixed (as long as i had my receipt) no questions asked. only £45 in first place.

Yeah paid £25 last month at Kwik Fit, couldn't complain really. Was there for about 40mins (so didn't have to pay for parking whilst shopping) and solved my problem with condensation on the inside of my windscreen :)

Out of interest, after how many miles of air con use/years should you look into getting it regassed?

I would also like to know this, if someone could reply? Sorry for the 4 week bump!

I missed this question Scott, sorry. There's not set limit or recommendation to be honest. A system can work for years or months depending on how hard it's been worked and if it's been run up often to keen the seals intact. In theory one could last for years without problem.

I guess the best way of knowing when it's do a re-gas is when it starts to work less efficiently. Parhepa the fans have to run faster than normal to keep the temperature cool, or it just never gets down low enough in the first place.

Audi recommend at least every 3 years, especially if you use it alot!

I need to look into this myself as my car is just over 3 years now and i want mine sorting.

Should go down again next week, it's gonna p*** down:eyebrows:, on a more serious note as long as their machine does the full cycle and not just a "top up" should be fine, i had mine re-gassed a few weeks ago and all was fine, during the recent hot spell it packed up again, had leak test done today small leak from condenser so being done tomorrow, just in time for the rain:laugh:

I went in to Humphries in Reading (part of Kwik Fit) and they regassed my AC. However, there's another fault which I'm still trying to pin down. So because they didn't get it working, they didn't charge me anything :)

do kwik fit to the leak test aswell? not sure if mine just needs re-gassing or if theres something wrong with it. it never seems to blow out cold air. it does blow out cool air but its never enough and i end up openning the windows.

Sod kwick fit mate, you want to use these guys.

They come to your house or you can go to them, cost me £50 all in for full service/regass/leak test the lot.

Dazmo i just clicked that link typed in aircon regas and a load of results came up what do i need to look for

Tazzy
I just clicked "SCRAP MY CAR" Croydon and they came and took it away....the guy promised to bring it back if they fix the aircon ...is that ok then..

will getting the aircon regassed stop it smelling a bit fusty or is that the filter that needs replacing? (or both?)

Does re-gassed mean old refrigarent taken out and replaced with new stuff or just toppped up?

Never take your car to kwik fit full stop!

Completely agree, they could never fault find on a system and are just part fitters at the end of the day. I really don't know how they manage to get away with it as it's a criminal offence to knowingly trim (Add more refrigerant) any system when it has a leak! All these hundreds of grams here and there add up!!
