CR K04 Stage 4 Hybrid, comparison to k04

Hi guys I'm back!
I decided to send my turbo back off to turbo dynamics to get checked out because it was only flowing 217 g/s max.
So they found to problems with the unit: One is the actuator was a bit weak so they replaced that and The second is the turbine wheel does not have a cutback which the MD421 should have.
So they changed them and sent it back to me,
Now I'm just waiting to fit to see what power it can make.
Do people think these things will make a big difference?

You may need to have the map tweaked mate if it does flow more, use your Liquid gauge to keep an eye on AFR and if you have VAGCOM I would do some logs.... don't want it going lean

Hmmm
Billet compressor on it like in the pictures of the CR one George?
actuator change will change boost delivery.. I hope it wont spike to much as your rods will be at risk (consequence of fitting stiffer actuator)
turbine wheel will relieve a bit of backpressure and aid flow potentially, but I just cant see it making another 36g/s airflow.. but who knows.. maybe it will.

deffo need checking with actuator change if its gone stiffer, and flows more, checking the fueling keeps up with increased airflow if there's a significant difference.

glad they found something.
if you have a picture of the compressor wheel that would be handy to see to compare with CR's ones

Good work mate, pleased they sorted it for you.

How can you tell if it is a billet compressor?

That it a billet wheel as you can see the machine marks

The exhaust wheel doesn't look as big as the CR Turbo??]

The cr turbo just looks the same as standard and how mine used to look before I sent it away
now it has been cut down and the nut on the end too.

Welly how did you manage to flow 214.86 G/S with a standard turbo? that's what my stage 4 hybrid was doing lol

Large port head, boost maxxed out on a Revo stage 1 map. Think there is more to come as well, N75 not maxxed out when logging.

Fitting a MBC I have here when I get 5 mins to bring the boost up.

Also need a silicone TIP and 3" down pipe REALLY badly.

the cr one is nothing like the std one - the pictures are side by side of std vs CR one
which does yours look like?

I've marked out the machine marks on the CR Turbo where you can see where its been bored out for the larger exhaust wheel where on the TD Turbo it looks standard or just modified the wheel?

The TD turbo's turbine wheel has been clipped.... will flow more at the expense of later spool

Looks like they did that to the std turbine rather than fitting the RS6 one which is larger like the CR Turbos one

<tuffty/>

Mixed feelings about clipping from what I have read... done wrong it can really hurt spool at the expense of a little more top end power... guessing CR feel there is no need to clip the RS6 turbine as it will flow a bit more out the box without the extra machining (and cost) of clipping.

I will see how the CR Turbo will cope with my 2.1 but if it runs out of puff at anything before 5500 rpms then it will be sold on and then i will go BT

Well i finally have a free day and know i cant find the bumper removal guide but ill just go for it anyway. wish me luck

Well i got a lot of the pipe work done have yet to cut the brace and fit the cooler. Spent 3 hours looking for the hose for my catch tank looks like it got thrown away by the GF when she had a clean out so had to order some more. You free this weekend for mapping BILL? HAHA dont think it will happen till after GTI inters but will deff have the cooler fitted and car running again.

this weekend I cant do no, MrsB off on a cruise with her mum so saturday I am Taxi service to S'hampton
let me know when its all done as we can explore what it can give

Well i hope to have it back rolling this week so beginning of July is good for me. Any news on the new location yet?

new premesis I was after I have had to walk away from.. Crazy costs from owners for surveying floor to answer my simple question can i sink the dyno into it.
got a bad feeling all they wanted to do is screw the tennant over with costs at every opportunity - screw em

so looking again. found a perfect place but its large and beyond what I would feel comfortable paying. sadly.. dyno install there is no problem for them at all!

Gutted for you Bill. Well good news for me i got home from work about 6ish and got the intercooler all fitted and connected and bumper back on so thats all done got top hoses all fitted and TIP so its ready to go. Haven't done Catch tank or N249 delete yet will more than likely do it after mapping as i want to put the tank on the back edge of the battery box when i put a induction kit. One thing ive just thought i didnt put the 4" ducting for the filter so i will have to take the bumper off again. Balls!

Bill will the N249 make any difference to the mapping?

Just thought Bill have you got any of those big jetex filter the SCN guys were using if i get one know off you i can do the catch can and ducting

woo hoo another free weekend so plan is remove N249 and hopefully get the radio out so i can fit the boost gauge. Lost my catch tank hose somewhere so cant do that. final job then will be 4" ducting for air filter.

Let us know how the car feels with the N249 removed and if you can upload a pic of where your ducting goes, Id be quite interested to see how you fitted your air feed.

Nathan

Yep i will take pics for you. I wont notice any difference as I'm only running waste gate pressure as my old stage 1 map could not with stand the extra boost so to be safe taking it to and from Bills we unplugged the N75.

wont the ecu just command the same boost as before? that wont know you have a hybrid yet lol...

anyway watching this post with interest, i hope you get more than 300bhp as it is very expensive for 20+ bhp from a stage 2
im getting a fmic then a custom code, my tuner thinks around 330 bhp??? we will see..... hope all goes well steve...

330bhp on a standard turbo Dave. I have never seen no more than 293 bhp on a standard not hybrid turbo.

N8

It all comes down to flow on the turbo as its not that much bigger its the limiting fact. Ill be happy with anything over 300.

give me a shout if you want to sell turbo i might have it depending on £££'s

Well got boost gauge fitted and deleted N249. weather depending will do 4" ducting tomorrow. Boost gauge was showing 8psi unless pushed where i saw 9psi. Also finally got my double din radio out as it was stuck and found the fuse blown but the ignition doesnt turn the radio on so will still go aftermarket and wire a swithced live from the fusebox
