hi guys got rid of my m3 e46 for a a3 2.0tdi 140, 140k miles full audi service history so its been looked after.

i had it mapped to 172bhp 2days after getting it and after a service, drove 300miles and the gearbox started making a horrible noise in second gear, (maybe the remap i was thinking :S) took it straight to the gearbox place where they said the bearing has come out and will need machining so it wont happen again £400!! they said they get about 3 a week with the audis, maybe a design fault??

Now when the gearbox is done im putting some bbs 19" and lowering her on coilovers, so should look nice.... The main question is, is it worth doing stage 2 or 3 with this kind of milage? ive been told its "nothing for these engines" but came here to ask you guys to see what you think

thanks for your time
josh

If your getting the gearbox split might as well have an uprated clutch fitted as well as the car will soon need one anyway with that mileage with a remap. Engine wise 140K miles is nothing to worry about if going for more power. What do you call stage 2 or 3 ?

Thanks for the reply mate, just didn't want to be spending 1k plus on the car if its going to have lots going, I'm gonna keep the car for atleast 3years as I'm a uni student u see :).

Stage 2 or 3 I think is a hybrid turbo, upgraded clutch, twintercooler, green filter or bmc , quickshifter etc..

The only thing I'm worried about it it being front wheel drive with all that power?

First off mate there is no such thing as stage 2/3/4 etc it`s all marketing crap so buy into it. You don`t need a twintercooler if you are living in this country. How much money you got to spend or what power do you want?

Ah u see mate, well ill be doing it in stages looking at 1-2k spending on it. I want it quick 200-300bhp if **** but still want the mpg high. As I say I've had it maped gonna get the sachs upgraded clutch in nxt few weeks and get her lowered 50-60mil on 18s. What would you say is best steps for me?
Cheers

2K will not get you much. Hybrid turbo, remap, clutch, panel filter, cheap exhaust if your lucky with about 210-220 bhp.

Sorry for the spelling by the way, the view on this poxy blackberry is shet

It`s not the blackberry mate it`s the forum. It doesn`t look any better when on a computer either.:puke:

Ok I see, well ill get the upgraded clutch etc then look into turbo, what kind of turbo should I be looking at?

either get your turbo made into a hybrid or buy a new hybrid. CR Turbo`s is a very good place to get a turbo from with a good price and back up. Best to get a GT20/56V hybrid made as makes much better power for slightly more money then the GT17/56V most people go for.

first of all id get the gearbox fixed and get a sachs clutch kit with a SMF while your at it, then a full milltek with decat pipe, then gt a new hybrid turbo, I have the GT20. then you got to worry about you EGTs! but thats more than enough for your budget, try to get a BMC CDA if you can

I see.. Ye I'm not looking to spend upwards of 2k really. Just stages of mods.. Need to get a nice rear valance aswel I've seen a 8p jms bodykits rear and it looks smart. If I'm upping to the new turbo will I need the bigger groved brakes or maybe the s3 setup? Also how quick are we talking from a diesel with 220-240bhp as I'm not used to diesels atall.

Where from mate? And kind of price fitted and sprayed?

you can either buy brand new from audi or TPS (probably around £300) or second hand on ebay, they go for about 100-150 on ebay. then you'l need to get sparyed and fitted, prices vary

sorry mate just got on my laptop thanks for the p.m wasent ignoring it, ah i see.. could you link me to one on ebay so ino which one and shape itis? what kind of speed you getting from ur a3 does it keep up with most things? since having mine ive noticed my tdi not sure if all are the same but has a very short 1st gear, useless for pulling away.. anyway of eliminating this or will the turbo help?
