Golf GTi Imports

Hi all, recently sold my S3 and, as the wife is expecting again, I need a 5 dr. I've been looking at GTis and have phoned a couple from the Trader. I've spoken to five so far, and all have been imports. Its seems that once you start speccing them up they become expensive for what they are and people are then abandoning franchised dealers and buying an import at a saving of 2.5-3.5k.
My question is , how much under uk prices should an import be valued at ?
Also, does anyone know of any potential shortfalls with regards to the spec differences from different eu countries ?
Do you only need the certificate of conformity to first register ?

Hope somebody can shed some light here.

When i had a MKIV Golf this was a import and when i went to trade it in all i kept hearing was but it is not a uk car.
I think i was offered about 10-15% below uk car price.
Hope this is of help.
I looked at Golf GTI`S before i bought my a3 and i agree most of them seem to be imports.
As long as it is a uk spec car you should be ok, avoid the ones from cyprus, malta etc
