PS3: GTA4 Bash!

Following on from Kontraband's excellent PS3 gamer tag thread, I noticed a lot of you have GTA4. How about organising a private game amongst ourselves? Could do Deathmatch, Hangman's Noose or (my favourite) Mafiya's Work.

Suggest Wednesdays from 9pm starting October 8th if that's good for everyone. If Kontraband has already added everyone here as a friend in PSN, then he could host a game and invite us all, or I'm happy to host - add me as a friend (tag: HardwareWizard) and I'll invite you to the match. To boost numbers, any friends or relatives you have who also play are most welcome :)

Apologies also to those of you who I PM'd about this - just hoped you guys would be interested, that's all!
 
Sounds good.

I have added all the people on the list bar the last couple to update.

Havent played GTA online, or even played the game in a while, but up for a laugh with all..

But i never played online b4 apart from just running round like :p
 
woah... didnt know it was such a wide choice of games... might have checked it out sooner...

Does how far you have got in the game make a difference to the online play cause I lost my game save with 2.4 update and havent played it again since...

Nope - you can start playing online straight away. Playing online is all about making money, although it doesn't get added to the money you have in the normal game. The more money you make, the higher rank you gain and this opens up more new clothes for your player - you can customise how your player looks, even down to gender.
 
Okay, so I know I said we'd kick off on October 8th (next week), but is anyone around tonight (Oct 1st) from 9pm? Kontraband, could you host and invite us all?
 
ill be online from 12am all this week i work alternate shiftwork,so its either porn or ps3 when im get home and as my helmit is sore ill play the ps3 for a while....only joking.

but if anyones online after 12am this week let me know user name : ots
 
will try and add you all this weekend from the PSN sticky

then we can get some gaming on!!
 
It does have voice comms - the list of players shows who has voice comms and who doesn't - but you can only talk to others who have it. I don't unfortunately, so no voices come through.
 
I haven't played gt4 for a long time and I am a complete noob to the online lark but count me in for some mindless carnage!

I took a look earlier and I dont even know how to get online - Any quick tips? I can't be ***** doing the research!

When you in the game press the up cursor to bring your mobile phone up and then access your phone settings, scroll down to Multiplayer and and press X. If my memory serves me right! You can then choose "custom game" which makes you the host or there's another option but I can't remember what's named as! but you'll see.

Easy as that.

I should be hopefully online tonight around 9ish so if any of you are up for some "Carnage" :racer: add me to your players list.

Hi everyone,

If anyone hasn't used GTA4 online yet, it's probably a good idea to try it out before 9pm to make sure you can connect and start the games successfully. To get online, when you're within the GTA4 game itself, push Up on the controller to get your mobile phone to appear, press X for the menu, scroll down and select 'Multiplayer' followed by 'Quick Match' (the other option 'Custom' allows you to create and host your own match).

After chosing 'Quick Match', you'll have a choice of all the game modes in GTA4 (see full details here: http://www.gta4.net/multiplayer/) and by selecting one you will go to a screen showing a list of players with the map and games options selected. Press X again to indicate you're ready, and when everyone else is or enough players are there the action starts.

For tonight, you'll get an invite from either myself or Kontraband from 9pm. To be honest, I've only ever sent out invites rather than received them, but I think you only have to be playing GTA4 (plus have your PS3 connected to the web and signed into PlayStation Network, obviously) to get involved - when inviting people, a little 'IV' icon appears to show you're playing it.

Hopefully this makes sense. The bottom line is that to play tonight, you just need to be signed into PSN and be playing GTA4!
 
It just goes to show how long it has been since I played it, I forgot all about the mobile!
 
I think when you lift your phone out you have an option in multiplayer that is called invites received or some such... so check in their for invites ;)

Yesterday there is a chance that benw123 crashed me out when he invited me, so if that happens just restart the puppy ad drop me a PM and I'll reinvite.
 
Yeah sorry about that (if it was me!). We'll see how it goes. I suggested to Kontraband that we start with Deathmatch, then after a few rounds maybe switch to Mafiya's Work or Hangman's Noose - the latter is an excellent co-op against a computer-controlled SWAT team (picture starting out in the airport with a six-star wanted level and the need to transport a gangster to a safe house. Then add in your online team mates :)).
 
well I dont think it was you... as its happened again...

froze the PS3 and then seemed to freeze the entire network...

took 30 mins to get it back... :mad:

Well played guys! That was a great laugh, especially some of the early deathmatches. pjmspeedy looked a bit useful I must say - cut me down several times - and considering you're a newbie Kontraband, I stayed out of your way as much as possible!

I think my favourite game type is Mafiya Work (the one where you have the small missions to complete while competing against the others). Some fine battles, but you make quite a bit of cash too.

By the way, the player d_ladji was a mate at work who I invited, as he's keen to get into GTA online.

benw123 - Thanks for your kind comment there sir :thumbsup: lots of practice but not for a while as that was the first time I had switched my PS3 on in about a month a half!

It was a good laugh I must say and playing the various types of games was also good to keep everyone interested. I did enjoy the racing :racer:. session.

I won't be around next week as my misses is taking me away on a susprise holiday for my 30th so catch you again for some more carnage the week after.

p.s - Where were the rest of you ?
 
I was there, eventually - trying to an invite was takin me a while!

It was a quite a laugh and for a first timer, I'll big myself up a little. Anytime you fancy a game drop me a message!

was a good laugh so definitely up for it again... Would normally be around 10 tho...

Well I'll be around from 9pm tonight, so as soon as I see you online I'll invite you into my next game.

I'm expecting my workmate d_ladji to be there and I'm hoping to tempt my brother away from COD4 for once to join in too (turboboyx). If you see these two names, please don't kick them!

Incidentally, some of the GTA4 game servers were down last night. Everyone playing had zero ranking - at least from what I could see - but it recovered just after 10pm.
 
Where was everyone then? Only saw MeatyChi late on and was about done then! Spent a lot of the night playing Hangman's Noose - you can earn a fair drop of cash playing that.
 
Hey guys...
I spent the last week in Bracknell on business and this week didnt get home from Bristol until 9.30. On top of that, I have only had chance to play the game twice so a real noooob!..
I wont be around next week either (back in bracknell!) but i'll look to catch you guys as you are in my list now.
Anyone up for other games in the future?
I have pro street, blazing angels, warhawk and a few more that support mult. (how about gran turismo?
 
Sorry, decorating my front room last night, didn't get chance to have a game.
 
Gran Turismo would be good but due to how the online play works, there's no guarantee we'd all start the same race.

I'm gonna go online again tonight (Friday 17/10) from 9pm if anyone else is around - will look out for you guys.
