I got a 360 on launch day. It broke after a month with the red ring of death, so they sent me a replacement. This broke after 6 months, so I got another one. This broke about 2 wks ago. I called them and they said I had to pay £83 to get it fixed. I told them where to stick it and they eventually said they would repair it or send me a refurbished one for free. They have been sending me refurbished ones each time. they were going to charge me because they said the warranty for each machine counts from the launch day when I got the first machine. How stupid!

Now I'm not doing anything stupid like bouncing the console on a trampoline or standing it above a fish tank, its just breaking on its own. Really disappointing because its been great with the game gears of war on multiplayer on live.

Hope it dont break again when I get it back. (Lucky number 4)

Just sharing my misery. Feel better now!

Mines been flat for 14 months, on a glass stand, and now has the ring of death.

always try to keep the xbox flat, when it upright, air is only escaping from one side,

TDI what has MS said ?

About £82 as it's out of warranty by 2 months.

The new part has a warranty of 1 MONTH!

Sounds a right con, but need it repaired. May source a specialist to fix if it goes wrong again, or buy another core pack.

UPS will deliver and collect in this price too, so no extra postage costs.

:(

There are places on the net now that will repair one for £50, as soon as mine is out of warranty i'd deffo go down that route. I think a MS repair is probably better but wouldn't want them to have any more of my cash.

I'm on my second. The first (bought in August) broke at the beginning of Jan. They fixed it in 2 weeks but I got back an older one than the one I sent in which i'm a little miffed about.

Mine was picked up yesterday, the guy reckoned about 5 working days for repairs.

I would look at sourcing the work else next time.

Might have to get a spare core pack just in case. :)

Mine has come back from repair. Checking the serial number its a different xbox 360, a few months older than the one it replaced. It works fine with the games which is reassuring that its not the discs which are ********.

I dont understand why some people (like me) have had so many break downs with the 360. I dont play it excessively and I look after the games and the machine. Bad luck? Or maybe its stupid of Microsoft to send out refurbished machines which are bound to break again. They should bin the broken ones and send out new ones as replacements.

If mine breaks again I will prob not get it fixed and just get a PS3. I've never had any bother with the PS1 and PS2. It would be a shame as Xbox Live has made gaming great fun.

you shouldnt have paid, you should have argued the fact its a comon problem etc,

am suprised its not been on watch dog yet

Everyone that bought a 360 before November 06 have bought a console with the old noisy DVD drive made by samsung/hitachi, and it is a crap drive to say the least, the noise and reliability suck.
Brother has had to send his back as it is asking to insert a 360 disc when there actually is one inside.
Mine is from the November 06 production line which includes the new BenQ drive that is quieter and more reliable than the samsung/hitachi units.

hi peeps just got the three red lights, need the best advice possible to fix it, please can someone steer me in the right direction,

it will be so much appreciated.

thank you everyone.

hi mate,

call microsoft. They are supposed to have extended the warranty on the early 360's to 3 yrs. You should be fine and should definitely not have to pay for the repair. Call them up (unfortunately you will have to talk to a moron who goes through a flow diagram telling you to unplug this and that and turn it off and on and so on) but if its broken its broken and they will send you out a freepost box to send it back to them and should get you a replacement in a few wks.

GOodluck and keep us posted!

PS - happy to report my 360 has been working well since i got it back from repair in Feb 2007
