Heavy Steering - Re-coding??

Just had a new steering rack fitted but now the steering feels considerably heavier. Also doesn't seem to self centre so well when coming out of a turn.

Read somewhere that it could need re-coding to get things back to normal.

Anybody know if this is true and if so, how??

Also, just for the fun of it I tried:

Sensor for Steering Angle (G85)

Prerequisites:

• Start the vehicle.
• Turn the steering wheel one turn to the right and one turn to the left.
• Drive in a short distance straight line on a level surface at a speed not higher than 20 km/h.
• If the steering wheel is straight during the test drive then stop the vehicle with the wheels pointed straight.
• Ensure that the steering wheel is not moved again.
• Keep the engine running and do not switch off the ignition.
• System voltage at least 12.0 V.

My value was way out... something like 5.25.

Oh, and tried getting into steering assist but it doesn't appear to be allowing me in. Keep getting "error channel 01 not available".
Tried enabling in security settings (as advised somewhere) using code 40168. Code was accepted, but still no luck getting in.

So basically it looks like the guys that have fitted the rack (non-audi dealer and non-audi specialist) installed the rack and have done no coding etc whatsoever.

My car feels a right mess to drive at the moment.

PS: the new rack that I have is an upgraded rack from audi as the older ones were problematic.

The racks also change looms as there are 3 generations of racks mate, the new one may also require a new loom fitted, whats your old & new rack part numbers?

Just out of curiosity, they have actually plugged the looms back into the rack yes, as this would do it lol.

Funny you should mention looms because they had to order a new one when fitting the new rack, which delayed me getting the car back.
Looking at the invoice it looks like the rack is part number 1K2 423 055 JX, and the harness (loom??) is part number 1K2 971 111 AJ.
Don't know the part number of my old rack.

As for them plugging the looms into the rack......... is there an easy to tell if they haven't??
The steering is heavy, just not zero power steering heavy, if you get what I am. Still feels like i'm getting some assist.

Just wondering here - but is that not suggesting that there is an issue with the steering Angle sensor for the value to be that high ?

Not looked at what is involved with changing the rack - but if the value should be between +/- 1.5 degrees and yours is reading 5.25 it would suggest that the rack home position is way out compared to the steering angle sensor.

I do recall having some issues after I changed my steering ecu for cruise - where I had to ignition off between the proceedures.

Think I'm going to take the car to an Audi specialist to have a look. I've tried all of the calibrations and nothing seems to work.
Since having the tracking done the steering angle is slightly less.... 4 point something I think.

The tracking has also cured the heavy steering problem. It's back to it's usual lightness now, which I thought was weird as I didn't think adjusting the alignment would affect this.

The only fault I am left with now is:
