I've got a 2000 A3, for which I bought a VAG-COM lead- it's OBD2. My wife has just got a Mk5 Golf, which I believe runs on CAN-BUS (?).

I want to be able to do home diagnostics on the Mk5, so what are my options? Do I need to buy a new lead (PC to Car) and get more software OR is it just a case of getting new software?

I've just got the basic Ross-Tech VAG-COM installed on my PC.

Thanks-in-advance.

The VCDSLite product is only good for cars up through 2004. Yeah there are some after 2004 that still run with VCDSLite, but not many. Most were changed to the CAN diagnostic bus and that requires the full genuine Ross-Tech VCDS setup. VCDSLite has no support for CAN diagnostics.

So what do you need? You need to buy an interface and the software from Ross-Tech or one of our distribs.

NHN on this forum sells genuine Ross-Tech product.

I do indeed, thanks Bruce, if you would like to obtain a genuine cable, please give me a shout.
