409 is very old & you wont have access to very much at all, why not go the whole hog & buy an upto date genuine vcds cable that has full use of all features/modules on the car, £230 well spent IMHO, saved me thousands & not one person has ever looked back, best purchase for yer car I can 100% guarantee as long as its genuine.

Yes you need canbus type, but also 409 is very old & might not allow you to access much given shareware use I suspect.

If your 04 A3 is the 8P platform, you need either a HEX+CAN or MicroCAN interface running version 805. You will not be able to use the 409 version software at all on your car.
