This is prime example of why to buy genuine fella, so 3 days later wasted & a lead not much good as is, you have to admit its a good reason to get authentic
Problem is ebay leads are different versions so drivers will also be different I have found when I've checked ini files etc ages ago when I made the big mistake of buying cheap one, so you could ruin the lead by simply installing wrong drivers.
Get yourself an original & never have this problem again.

theres no way am spending £200+ on something thats only gonna get used once in 6months mate, that money would be well spent some where else. i just want to scan for error codes so £200+ just for that is steep
were not all loaded![]()
Who said I was loaded, now its 4 days huh lol

u would need to be. my local mechanic has some APR hand held device that does almost all i have needed apart from a scan.
i found the driver gonna give it a spin tonight and if it don't work i may hold out till end of the month til payday![]()
The "driver" for the ebay cables is just a standard windows USB-Serial driver
The ebay leads use an older lead design with a serial based interface, then use a USB to serial converter to allow it to connect to the USB port on your laptop
I also agree with you about the price. I can afford to take a chance on £10, i cant afford £300 to read some fault codes off though.
i use the old 301? software with mine and it works perfectly fine. You may need to adjust the settings on the USB-Serial driver to get it onto one of the first 4 COM ports, mine came up as com7 initially but you can move it in the control panel.

so wtf does all that mean
It looks like you have a lots of faults, possibly historic - I would reset the fault codes and re-run, in a week or so, to double check that these aren't redundant faults left from a previous owner!

I have to agree with Diesel-A4 on this one - I have a cheap ass ebay cable and it worked fine, it read and cleared my ABS fault codes after fitting my ABS ECU.
