Hi all,

The engine management light came on the other day and stayed on, but with no symptoms - car is driving as normal.

Took it into a local VAG independent specialist today to get it checked. They plugged it in to do some diagnostics, but could not establish a connection with the engine (option 1).

It could successfully connect to the air con and all other options and run diagnostics, but when trying to connect to the engine it kept coming back with the same message saying it couldn't connect.

The guy at the garage was stumped, he'd never come across this before and so wasn't able to sort out the problem.

He said we would contact tech support this afternoon to find out if they could help, but I wondered if anyone on here had seen or heard of a similar problem?

Is it related to why the warning light came on, or a problem with their equipment or what?

Cheers

Mike

If the garage had VCDS (VAG-COM) and Ross-Tech interface, they could run a test that might tell us the status of the (2) diagnostic buses (known as the K Lines). My guess is that something is wrong on the K1 line. The ECU is found on this line and not many other modules use it.

Without an Autoscan and more information, it would be hard to pose all the possibilities.
