s4 vagcom noob

hi guys, got a cheap ass lead off ebay, anyone know what version of vagcom i need to run with it.
i really dont have a clue about kinda stuff
its for a 98 s4 and its a usb obd2 lead.

Only software that will work is one of the shareware versions. Since they are free, try them both.

when i test the usb it says interface not found
any ideas?

I think you need to have the cable plugged in to the car and the ignition on to give power to the cable before the pc will recognise the connection
