Hi, dont laugh if this is a stupid question but i know nothing about this stuff at all.....

My mate has vag-com, connection cable and laptop and uses the software on his 2001 Audi TT.
Would he be able to plug this into my 2006 A3 S-line 2.0 TDI to make some changes to my car.
I want to get the car to beep when you use the key fob to lock/unlock the car. Have heard this can be done but you need vag-com to do it.

Does this make any sense or am i asking a stupid question ?

Cheers in advance.....

It depends on what cable he has. A 2001 TT only requires K-Line diagnostics where-as your A3 will require Canbus diagnostics (different protocols).

Ask him to check what cable he has and post it here for further advice.

Regards,

Paul

will do - -having a bbq tonight and he will be there so will question him.
(will try not to drink so much i forget the answer too)

cheers:icon_thumright:

I think that cable is an aftermarket cable that does not support the CAN diagnostics. To work on your car, you would need a HEX series interface or a Micro-CAN interface from Ross-Tech. There are no aftermarket cables that are compatible with VAG-COM and that have CAN diagnostic capability.

****** ! .... out with the credit card it again then ....

How much will that cost ?

Cheers for the reply by the way.....
