ODB2 USb cable for A3(8P)

Got a current generation 2003 A3 2.0 TDI DSG.
Found some USB interface cables on eBay, but sellers say they are not suitable for newer Audis. Where can I buy a reasonably priced USB cable from which will work with VAG Com 409.1? Or am I doing the wrong thing using this freeware software????

You cant get a cheap cable to work on newer Audis as they have a CAN-bus communication system which requires a CAN enabled cable to talk to the car. The only cable I know of is the Ross tech USB one at £259.95(they do a serial one slightly cheaper).

I would not have suggested it as an alternative if it was not compatible.

Please see the A3 info page for assurance that it will work. The top of the chart states which interfaces work with the particular model and year.
