Any ideas how or why this was raised? Is is safe to clear and forget given that the fault frequency is only 1?

No, although I've only just bought the car and this error code happened ~3 weeks before so the previous owner may have swapped out RNSE for the current Concert2+. I want to install RNSE but will PM you about that.
