I had my first tinker on my S3 8L with VAG.COM today to check/clear all fault codes, turn on beep with alarm and remove auto lock at 10mph. I cleared all codes and think I cleared something that I shouldn't have as I have got to my mums and found the remote alarm/locking is not working! I did have a control module memory fault in instrument cluster and got click happy when clearing codes!

I have tried the learning remotes instructions including clearing on channel '00' before trying to pair the keys again but get no joy pairing them after saving 2 keys in the test and save area. I just get nothing when pressing either unlock or lock after saving and when I go back in it says there are '0' again.

Here are 2 logs, one from before clearing fault codes and one after I got home from after realising they weren't working when I went out (I realise that I have a seatbelt problem from when I move my seat back and forth):-

If its a genuine interface, just fire an email of to Ross-tech who will happily advise how to code them again.

Your pump coding is 00032
This means you've coded the alarm and remote locking out, you need to recode to turn them back on
Try something like 13130 then add or subtract the number for alarm beep
Guessing its add 32 ?
If so you would enter 13162 as the code
Then recode fobs

I have tried the learning remotes instructions including clearing on channel '00' before trying to pair the keys again but get no joy pairing them after saving 2 keys in the test and save area. I just get nothing when pressing either unlock or lock after saving and when I go back in it says there are '0' again.

If when you press the test and your remote is 'recognised' ok, then what your doing wrong is saving both remotes at the same time.

Enter in the number of remote's as 1 remote, press 'test' press button on remote, says 'recognised', save, exit, then repeat the 'exact' process for the second remote (entering 1 again for number of remote's).

Hope it helps.

My remotes were not recognized as there was no change or confirmation when button pressed. Will try the code that olds_kool has given above. It seems that is where I entered the code incorrectly. Olds_kool, Is that what you believe to be the correct code or just a random number that sound like the correct one?

Ok, I went out a recoded using 13130 and success!! Saved a key and it locks/unlocks. Am I right in thinking that if I took away the 32 that it says is the auto lock then it would be de-activated or do you add the 32 to switch between on and off? I saved the code as 13098 and alarm still arms etc. but have not driven it yet to see.

Turns out that although its genuine you have to register for $99 as I bought it second hand. Not gonna happen as it took me ages to buy a lead in the first place. Oh well.....

Thats how it works mate I'm afraid if its 2nd user, otherwise RT would never make any money & VCDS would never exist, but thankfully it does exist, as you've resolved your issues, so maybe that 99 bucks is worthwhile after all fella :)

Received my lead today - thanks to NHN - and was familiarising myself with a few bits! but when I shut it down a few bits, including my C\L wouldn't work. after a little hyper-ventilating and remembering seeing this thread! I scanned for errors and not finding anything different to my initial scan, it dawned on me that I had been testing the Transport Mode setting to see what it did! Turns out it switches off the DRL's, Interior Lights and ...yep, you've guessed it ...Remote Central Locking! Exiting Transport Mode returns everything to normal.

Whew! :scared2:

Perhaps this was the cause of the Central Locking failure for the O\P?

Note: I'm not sue if it changes any of the Chassis\Running Gear settings, but I didn't drive it anywhere so I never found out.

Just a bit more advise please, I know you have to add certain numbers to activate something but what if you want to de-activate it? Do you minus that amount?

Glad you got it figured out by yourself :icon_thumright:

You really were on a hiding to nothing though, as you wanted support for something that you were not willing to support yourself ?
how does that work?

You may think that $99 is a lot of money for ‘nothing’ (or the odd e-mail reply from Ross-Tech) but when you consider the R&D that they put in AND offer you free lifetime updates and support, then perhaps you will see where your hard earned goes.

I have replied to this thread as I'm certain I now require help from someone with VCDS

I have just bought a 2005 A3 2.0T . Both keys unlock and lock in the door. Both start the but only 1 key worked as a remote.

I searched and found a whole heap of NON VCDS ways to get the remote working on my spare key. None worked for me.

I then followed the 5x key turning process to clear all the remotes as Ross Tech suggest this may be needed and then some adaptations are required when using VCDS.

I now have 2 keys that had been coded with the car but both now no longer work as remotes. Again, none of the heap of non VCDS methods has worked.

As stated above, I need someone .

Is there anyone with VCDS able and willing to help get the remotes working for a member in Blandford Forum, Dorset?

I can travel, but naturally I'd like to find someone available as a first priority and ideally as local as possible.

Naturally, I'll print out all the VCDS instructions I can find. I just need assistance with VCDS and an wiser opinion on the best approach.

I have used Carista to check fault codes many times and had one that pointed to a worn Turbo diverter valve. Once I replaced it by access from the offside wheel arch, the code has gone and performance greatly improved I've only mentioned this to illustrate I'm not a novice to fixing Audis, I just don't have VCDS, yet.

I am considering buying VCDS from NHN but am struggling with how many licences I need. We have 3 Audi and 1 Golf in the family and if I bought VCDS I'd like to go on the VCDS map if it would help others as well as me on a purely non profit basis. It's just the cost of the extra licences I'd need to make it workable

I have just had a similar problem with my A3 8P. Spare key has been in a draw for years and when I come to use it, it did not work. Changed the battery thinking it was flat and made no difference.

Tried all of the methods on the net with keys in the door etc etc and none of them worked.

So I crack open VCDS and follow a video on youtube to reset both keys and now I am stuck with two keys not remote locking/unlocking.

GREAT !

So I follow the VCDS reset one last time and then try the door with the key and press unlock and voila, the key springs into life. I do it with the next one and its all back to normal again.

I think you will need someone with VCDS allroader
