EMS warning - 2001 A3 1.8T in Barnsley, South Yorkshire

Since buying the car in 2008, no faults until earlier last week where, on braking a touch harder than normal the ESP/ASR lamp lit up now and again ('tho disappeared on turning the engine off then back on). This continued for a couple of days until late last Friday night where, on starting up, the amber Engine Management System lamp remained on. I subsequently drove the 10 miles back home, during which the engine performed absolutely fine with no problems (the EMS lamp still lit). Subsequently, I'd appreciate if there's anyone in Barnsley/South Yorkshire with Genuine VCDS/VAG-COM that could help out. If not, it'll have to be a call to the main dealer this week ...

PS - tokens of appreciation will happily be offered, given the main dealer would be lightening my wallet anyways.

Replaced CTS - temp' guage when running now shows the obligatory 90°C instead of the 60°C of the previous few weeks. Also replaced the brake light switch - sure enough the original one had failed (had had some kind of fluid leak).
