Hello guys i am new to this forum please be gentle!

I have a 2005 A3 TDI 2.0 BKD SLine quattro.

I have just changed the dashboard and fitted RNSE and new (well remove from good donor car) steering angle sensor, steering ecu and cruse control stalk.

I now have ESP light, Airbag light and yellow steering light on constant, steering is now very heavy.

I have tried Ross techs calibration procedure with no joy and i have drove it apx 10 miles and its still the same.

I have tried diagnose with vag com 409.1, lite and 311 all fail to get connection with controller and state "no responce from controller".

I have both ross tech lead and usb lead and i cannot connect with eather.

This is strange as i can diagnose and erase any engine faults.

I am alittle stuck to say the least to how i can go forward with this so any help would be great.

Where did you get the cable from?

Disconnect battery for half hour, start car, stop car after a couple of mins then re try vagcom (just from experience).

Your 2005 (8P) A3 does diagnostic by CAN. VCDS-Lite does not work with that car. Nor will 409 or 311. None of those support CAN diagnostics. You need a MicroCAN dongle style interface at the minimum and you must run full VCDS. Once you have those, post an autoscan here for us to assist you. Else, you will be spinning your heavy wheel.

To the poster who says disconnect the battery - that will most likely not solve this problem. A diagnostic scan is needed to know the state of the modules in this car.

Thank you for your help guys,

Bruse - your right as disconnecting the battery does nothing.

The usb lead looks very cheap with it only having 4 pins present however same issie with expensive lead.

I have spoken to a vag com specialist in my area who thinks the new parts will just need coding in.. He thinks the vag com that has been used by my friend is the problem so i should be ok with what he uses.

Still confusing why i have been able to diagnose and delete engine faults but cannot access other areas of vag com.

I guess if he does not simply fix the issue Sunday then he will mail me the fault codes so ill post them up to try problem solve.

Again... MANY THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.
