How to go about checking for Vagcom Faults?

Hi I'm relatively new but been browsing forums for a while,

I really haven't a clue about Vag-com software, I have had a few issues with my A3 Sport(2004), I have an occassionally recurring problem with my alarm where the small beep sound happens sometimes when I lock my car, sometimes it resets itself and it goes back to normal for a few weeks.

Ideally I would like to check it for faults, Do I need to find out anything specific before contacting someone to see if they can help me?

Have a look on the vcds users map to see if anyone is nearby and can help you.
