Hey,

I bought an A3 quattro S-Line diesel just before Christmas and I'm having no end of trouble with it. The ABS light is on in the dash and the EBS switch isn't lit and it isn't working.

I took it to one garage who has vag and they told me the ABS pump was faulty, they took the pump off and sent it to BAA reman for a recondition, after having the car for two weeks they rang me up, said it hadn't worked, the ABS fault was still there and that I should take it to Audi's, which I did.

After being charged a considerable amount of money and replacing the ignition switch, which was apparently faulty too they are telling me either the ABS pump is faulty, at a part cost of £880.00, or the instrument cluster is faulty, at a cost of £650.00, its either/or apparently.

I was hoping there might be someone on this forum that can help me, this is costing me hand over fist and I'm no further along than I was nearly 6 weeks ago and minus several hundred quid. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do please? or can recommend someone who know what they are doing and it won't cost me another mortgage.

thanks very much.

Ideally you need a scan of the car with vcds before we can advise further, there's various things we could test, but you do need vcds to do this, also if its cluster then can get that sorted for less than £650 & probably abs module for less aswell, PM me landline number & when I get a chance I'll bell you.

That would be great, I'm really stuck on what to do and the guy I bought it from doesn't want to know.

Are you free sometime and I can drive it over to see you perhaps?

Given location, that seems the best option tbh, once you have a full scan & maybe diagnosis, come back on here & we'll see what we can do about it if cant be resolved.

The ESP light is on all the time as well but couldn`t scan ,is it part of ABS module? Also car is chewing up front tyres at a rate of knots.

Strange you say you cant login to abs, as gateway reports it as ok.

I suggest you try doing the SRI as RT advises, then see what occurs, but if you cant access the ABS controller then this isnt a good sign, then again neither are the immo & cluster issues.

Also see if you can do an adaptation reset of the cluster, iirc was channel 1.

Snow stopped play, we needed the car for work to get around, hopefully this weekend we'll give it a go, thanks for your reply.

I disconnected the battery today for well over an hour just to see if it had any effect, it didn't and the clock kept its time, is that normal?

So we tried again today, we are unable to reset the service light, tried both ways, changing the 1 to a 0 and it still comes on,

also we tried the "Basic Setting for Hydraulic Unit Intake Valves", we got to the 'Group 025' part but it was 'unavailable', tried loads of things including restarting the car but with no luck we couldn't get into group 025.

Could the instrument panel be causing these problems? I've found a place that will test it and repair if necessary but I don't want to waste my time and even more ££ if these faults aren't due to the cluster.

thanks again for your help and big thanks to Mr Heinz for his help :)

Did you do the security access part before trying the basic settings?

Also can I ask, can you or not login directly to ABS 03?

Yes security access was ok ,can login to ABS 03, can check angle gear,G85,G200,G201,and G251 but not hydraulic unit intake or disconnecting valves. just says NA. esp/asr settings say ok but cannot turn esp on . it is off all time.

Assume you are using the esp button to try to disable, have you checked measuring blocks to check the buttons working ok?

I'll point RT to this.

Holding button disables both systems, a momentary press disables just 1, so login to abs or instruments & check what measuring blocks show when pressed momentarily & long, to show status for each system, if it shows them as working correctly, then I'd say instruments have an issue.

But the fact it says 2 things, immo with rom error & also basic settings needs to be done could be again cluster ******** or needs adapting in some shape or form given the abs controller has been removed & reinstalled.

Hopefully RT will see this thread & have an input :)

Ok I had some feedback from the RT, you will need to do the following for them to help further & quoted from an email:

"If I understand this correctly, the concern is that the ABS light is on?

I don't see any problem with the ABS itself, but the instrument cluster looks like it has been tampered with, probably using some "Back Door" tool.

If he needs help resetting the Service Reminder, those can be rather complicated in 2008 and newer Audis.

Please get us the contents of all the SRI-relevant channels so we can see what's going on.

To do this, click [SRI Reset] from the main screen, then click [Save to log file] and exit without doing anything else.

There should then be a file named SRI-Log.txt (or very similar) in your Logs sub-folder.l

Please send us that file."

So as you appear to have a genuine vcds, send the relevant data to support@ross-tech.com & hopefully Uwe will pick up on this & when they have a moment try there best to assist if they can :)

As the OP lives about 50 miles from me, it may have to wait until next week if he can make it to a nearby meet. Think he might be sending cluster away to be sorted.
Thanks again.

Think the OP needs to consider his own comments tbh, he doesnt want to send stuff away again costing more money, unless he can determine this is the actual problem at hand, it may resolve the issue, but if not then its another cost unwarranted IMHO

I'll see you at the meet I guess, thanks for the help and advice guys, I appreciate it ;)

So, we got the file yesterday and I went to my first meet which ws fun if a little cold.

lets see what they come up with :)

As long as he has emailed verifying his genuine vcds, then they will look into this for you.

So, we got feedback from RT that they couldn't see anything in the file,

not sure what to do now, I've been trying to use the car as little as possible but I have to sometimes for work, I'm nearly through the edges of a new set of tyres i fitted in January :(

I sent the instrument cluster to clusterrepairsuk.co.uk to be checked, they couldn't find any faults but flashed the software, I just fitted it and its the same, I'm not sure if I'd need to get the faults cleared ?

Has anyone got any ideas as to what I can do now please I'd appreciate any suggestion, thanks.

I need to recap on this thread as its been a while & thousands of threads since lol.

Setting light to it and claiming on the insurance is becoming more viable by the day :/

(joke btw, kind of, lol) I've spent about £700, an insane amount of time and got no-where so far so any advice is really welcome :)
