Which cable is needed for the Sportback / 8P?

I am confused as to what cable I would need to get VAGCOM working on my A3 Sportback. I know the 8P/Golf V platform has the CAN bus, but does that mean that you always need the (expensive!) cable from Ross-Tech or do most things also work over the old fashioned K lines?
I can get a dual K-line ODB USB adapter for a reasonable price, but is it going to work on my Sportback?

Also, does anybody know which functions/modules use the CAN bus and which use the K lines?

As ScoTTy said, I would recommend you buy the HEX-USB+CAN or HEX-COM+CAN cable.

If all you want vagcom for is to adjust these settings then it may be better off asking your dealer to do it for you?

Print out the codes and take them with you....
