i get a hissing at around 2-2,500 rpm before and after that range it disappears

I have a seemingly similar issue with my 2006 2.0 TDI lump. I haven't noticed a loss in performance or economy. After recently purchasing a VCDS cable I did the boost test as described here...Ross-Tech: VAG-COM: TDI VAG-COM Info
There's a link to my results in this thread here.
It'd be interesting to see what you get. The results on the Ross Tech website are for a 90bhp engine. I've not been able to source any known good boost data for comparison.
