PAINTING FIBREGLASS

Not sure if this should appear in this forum, but the query is on painting fibreglass.

I'm buying some body kit/replacement bumpers which are manufactured in fubreglass as opposed to plastic. The paint shop I've been to see say that fibreglass can sometimes 'bubble-up', during the drying time.

Is this common, or am I perhaps talking to the wrong chap? Should perhaps it air-dry rather than go in the oven...?

you are correct, you are taking to the wrong chap.
He is talking about two pack paint that can be cured with heaters to speed up the process. I wouldn't be giving him anythingto paint after those comments! Only benefit to using two pack on bumpers is it can be a more resilient paint to stone chips, it can also be more brittle.

You might be better off searching for a TVR / Lotus specalist to be honest, they'll do the job right.

TBH you will find that fibreglass is a lot easier to chip paint off than plastic. As for bubbling up cant imagine this would happen,fibreglass itself is extremely resilient to heat, the only time i have ever had problems with paint lifting is when you have extensively used bodyfiller and the panel can be prone to the filler shrinking. Perhaps the bodyshop are expressing their concern of this ? after all lots of fibreglass kits are extremely poor quality.

Any competent bodyshop can paint fibreglass it needent be a tvr/lotus specialist, And you wont find anywhere that does not use two pac clear coat
