Would a more powerful gearbox create slightly more torque.

Please Excuse my ignorance? I've a 2005 a3 2.0tdi bkd engine. My gearbox was given trouble so I sourced a second-hand gearbox from a 170bhp golf gearbox code jma. I think I noticed slighter difference in torque now when I'm driving. It feels as if the car is slightly quicker, would this make sense from the more powerful(possibly different gear ratio) gearbox or is this in my head? Many thanks guys.

wouldnt make a blind bit of difference to power or torque.

If it has shorter ratios, then it will feel like its accelerating through the gears quicker.

Thanks for your response dude. It must be a shorter ratio then :)

The pd170 have longer ratios compared to the 140 have. Look on darkside there jetta has a bmn gear box cuz they longer gear ratios
