I'm looking to remap my audi. Only just got it. 148k on it but goes well. Got a local revo dealer but they don't have a rolling road.

Also spoke to a place that does racing who have a rolling road and only do custom remap. They've been there ages.

Revo offers 204bhp but not guaranteed. Rolling road place said will be looking at 40 extra but he can prove it not just give me figures. May get more.

Which should I go for. Same price same distance

I'm not sure that any tuners guarantee a given amount of bhp gain with their software, but what they will do is to give you an average figure of what you can expect.

Some owners will get more, and some may get a little less, depending on the individual car and setup.

As to RR figures, any good tuner should not only inspect the car,but also run it on the RR first, and then after the software has been loaded, not only to asses the results, but also to log the car and ensure it's running correctly.

In your position,I'm not sure which I'd choose,as I have all my work done with a company that races in the BTCC(AMDTuning),but I also use Revo software.

Thanks for the reply. It's just some say to expect 204 and others 190. Thought 204 was stretching it a bit. Think I'll try custom since he has rolling road.

Whichever you choose, only go to one that uses a rolling road, and also the real road.

Mine always log the car on both, and ensure it runs properly.

Yeah revo one say they would just rake it out with laptop.

That would be worth letting Revo know about.

There are a few people out there dealing in their software and not really giving the best service, which in turn runs down the name of the product.
Simply loading the software via a laptop and letting it run is a very generic way of doing things, and in no way gets the best from the software.

They said they'd adjust boost levels and that. It's sports tech Ltd in ilkeston. No rolling road. Other option is dynotech in Ripley. They do everything. Rr, suspension, corner weighting etc. Apparently quite popular for boy racers to do rr

It sounds as if maybe they'd set it up on the road then.

There would be no other way of generating boost,or maybe simply adjusting the settings and then leaving it at that.

The other place sounds as if they have experience in setup etc,but I would make sure they've done cars like yours before, rather than being the first.

Thanks. I'll ask. Think their ad mentions Vag specialist

what are they charging for there custom map ?

In simple terms, your vehicle doesn’t need to be tested on a rolling road.
Our R&D department spend hours on the road, track and rolling roads during test and development before the software is released to the public so before the software is released to you, it’s already been tested and proven in house.
What is important is a road test and inspection of the vehicle before it's flashed, all our dealers are capable of checking over your vehicle to see if there are any obvious issues that need addressing prior to Revo software being installed. The peak numbers you get on a rolling road are typically referred to as ‘Pub Talk’ numbers; who has the most power and torque! In reality the Peak numbers are largely irrelevant; it's the power/torque throughout the rev range and the power delivery that's important the peak number gives very little indication to how capable a vehicle is or how well it drives. Unfortunately there’s a lack of understanding in the industry and still a requirement to quote peak figures? When Revo and our dealers set vehicles up on the road, we are data logging and feeling how to car drives to get the most from it for you the driver, not just trying to chase a peak number.

If you are in that area, there are two options -

| MG Autos Ltd

£250 which is a steal. Been there ages too. I know revo got good name but custom must be better. Or have I got it wrong

Oh and I'm looking for more power not bragging. I won't be telling folk. Want smooth usable power not a figure to tell people (my car is xx bhp when it ain't)

In real terms,I don't know is my answer.

I went with Revo, and stuck with them as I wanted a proven product, backup if I ever needed it,and an upgrade path, which I've used all the way from Stg1 to Stg4.

The choice has to be yours, and the pros and cons to both have to be weighed up.

What's the upgrade path?

Software upgrades from Stg1(simple remap to around 310bhp) all the way to running fully built big turbo engines turning out over 500bhp.

The upgrade path will give you the software required to run that...

Performance

2.0TFSI K03 Vehicle Stage 4 and 5 GT3071R Software

Also gives you a list of the hardware requirements for each stage,so mine is a hybrid of Stg4 and 5 as I run an external boost controller and around 2bar boost, but the rpm limit is still standard until the head is modified.

All I'd add Alex is that our software has possibly more development time, testing and effort put into it than anyone's, we stick to what we know best and do it right. The software is then customisable to your own specific vehicle (fine tuned for perfection) - Performance

We do true development on the road and track, so the car is working in the conditions that you as a driver will endure, not just sat on rollers trying to make figures for the dyno lottery. We also ensure that we make the most of your engine, whilst doing our up most not to sacrifice reliability, which is often seen.

As for price, well you get what you pay for and we currently have a 20% sale on, so that's a bonus!

Also read on here about Honda s2000 filter. Tempted to get with ram air Reducer. Will set me back about £25.

Always thought cones were bad but if I'm getting remap should mod first then remap. So should I get filter. Or maybe a k&n 57 because that has sheila and seen one on ebay

Well if you go the Revo route, as Alex has then you can go stage one to start and work up from there. will only cost £50 to then go back and have stage 2 software upgrade with set up. unlike custom tuning which I had on my Jap car and have to pay full amount every time something was changed. pay cheap, pay twice...

How do I know if it's custom or not. He said it was. He said he don't buy them and won't sell his maps. Just spends 4 hours making them.

no gaint to be had with CIA just noise

his map may be custom but a real custom map is made for each and every car
last custom i had was around £600 but was for big turbo
stage 1 no point in paying for a real custom map

Think only thing that is putting my off revo is lack of rolling road. How will I know what I started with and gained.

You could also give MG Auto's a call on 01773 745 400 who are in your area and have access to a Rolling Road if needed - Welcome to www.mgautos.uk.com | www.mgautos.uk.com

Been to mg and they don't have a rolling road neither. They use one in Chesterfield at scoobys clinic

Yes as I say they have access to one, but again share the same opinion on the Dyno with regard to mapping (Pub talk) and do their setting up on road or track, even on the Evo side of things that they specialise in for competition use. but as they said can get you on one if you'd like to see the figures.

Otherwise Pete at Pro-Sport has a Dyno on site if want to travel further afield (not a bad run up there, I went 2 weeks ago).

Ok. Do you think I'm risking it with engine having 150k on it.

Make the effort and travel to Bill at badger 5 for a proper custom map. Argument solved!

As long as an engine is Healthy & well serviced, then no not at all. however is someone's trying to push hard just to get figures on a custom map, that can be another matter. our software will be set up for you own car and is adjustable, therefore we could go a little less aggressive on the boost. however have a chat with your Revo dealer when there for best advise.

I sold a very healthy Octavia VRS 1.8T earlier this year with 168k on the clock and still going strong.

Dropped off car at mg autos at 9. Wait and see what it's like later. Hope clutch and flywheel hold up

As long as it's a healthy car, as I said it should be fine. Remember it's up to you how hard you drive it. Dealers will normally check a car over/health check before uploading Software. the main thing for you to check on the 1.8T from my experience is the loom to the coils across top of engine, as gets warm and can crack over time (I often find this when pre-checking them). I believe (don't quote me) that it's about £50 for a new loom and then can be spliced in if you're confident, or maybe pick up a good used one if saving pennies.

Enjoy it!

Thanks for that. It's 2 owners with full service history. Major service at 120k and not a service missed
