Re: Newbie question on 300bhp S3 (sorry)

Hi,

See this post!

There is only one hybrid turbo available for the S3, and the results are not really that well known yet. There are slowly more options coming available, and means getting cheaper, but its still not cheap! The problem is that Its never just a simple case of swapping th turbo! Lots more is necessary!

Rich,
Thanks for the info.
I heard jbs do a gt turbo conversion?
What is the cost of a hybrid turbo anyway? 4k?

Thanks

what about the k04/k24 hybrid should deliver more power good top end and little lag thats what i will be looking at sounds awesome few vehicles have them they're testing in the usa your looking at $1k to $1.5k its bolt on but recomend things like manifold are atleast ported and fmic to get best out of it,

its worth a look i think

Re: Newbie question on 300bhp S3 (sorry)

You won't get a sustainable 300bhp from a KO4. It may get there but it is on the absolute limit.

I am at the "put your money where your mouth is" stage for a BT conversion on an A4. I had the same response to the Jabba and AmD quotes of 4k for a 300ish bhp conversion.

do your homework, there is plenty on the web, I have spent the last 12 months finding the right car, turbo and parts and someone to do a custom map.
I have the following specced out, some bought, some being picked up on a trip to the US in Jan

Turbo (IHI VF34, 565cc injectors, high flow pump - 600 (US)
Intercooler - TBC 400max (custom spec 750x200x86mm core)
Milltek turbo back Exhaust and HF CAT - 100 (bought 2nd hand on Ebay!)
Custom Manifold and downpipe - 200 (US) (this was major ballache as there is currently no IHI compatible manifold for a longitudinal engine, plenty of Garrett ones though!)
S4 Bumper - 150 (bit of a tart!, actually much more compatible with a FMIC)
MRC Custom Remap - 500
Pipework, ancillaries, oil cooler, induction - 100 (some bought)

Little over 2000 all in.
300-350bhp is conservative.

Custom Manifold for 200 won't be that good then.Last time i looked vf34's were 600 to uk,injectors 200,pump 80.It will cost nearer 3k in the end and you have to fit yourself.BT's don't come cheap.

Re: Newbie question on 300bhp S3 (sorry)

It is not a dream shopping list. I have most of it already,
2 seconds on ebay and I can find the same deal

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8005830047&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

$500 buys you alot in the US, why pay 600 for a cutom job here...thats just nuts.

Even at 3k, I am still more than a grand in pocket compared to a jabba or AmD "deal".,,,,and why wouldn't I fit it myself, its all bolt on stuf, you pay the moeny for the hardware and the software.

Have some faith

You can things so much cheaper if you get the bits yourself... If i were doing it again, i would probably save myself around 2k!

Those are not bosch injectors and cannot be mapped with stock ecu.I wouldn't use a SS manifold as it will crack and the design would have to be good,ie not the ATP one.I don't believe you can get a decent manifold and downpipe for 200.Show me the link.Good luck to you but i don't think it will happen for less than 4k.

No bad vibes here mate.If i was doing it on the cheap,i would buy jabba manifold, ihi and injectors from states ,get custom lines and pipes made here.Get your sports cat, exhaust locally
550 manifold
600 turbo and injectors
80 Fuel pump
50 Maf
140 lines and feeds/fittings
100 Custom pipework
750 Exhaust and sports cat
200 Custom Downpipe
60 Plugs/oil filter
110 panel filter/Dv/enlarged feed
500 MRC Remap(if this is true)..Jabba took days perfecting mine.(1k+)
Total 3,140 plus fitting.

I reckon if the fitting is done by yourself (its a little awkward, but easy enough to do!) Then you could just squeeze it in for a little under 3500... Thats allowing a few leeway. I think yo just need to shop around a bit , and you can drop the price considerably... Its still not cheap though...but worth it

I have no problem if you want to pay 4k to a Jabba or Star or whoever for a "all in" BT conversion package.
I chose to shop around for my bits, fit them myself and chose a company that does a custom remap.
I will have this completed at around the 2k mark. I have actually removed the i/c cost and fitting from the equation so it will be even less, this was not planned and I am not about to jinx it by being cocky, doesn't happen till next month.

I am happy to update anyone who is interested in saving some major bucks but don't just disbelieve or criticise.

i'd definetly go for a new maf, there mostly knackered by the time you go for a BT(average 40k)
I've also heard a rumour fuel pumps can start to lack performance after time so would get a new one to be safe. You would still need a discharge module or flange for downpipe and proper banjos/oil feed/return fittings still reckon your looking at 70 minimum.Obviously you would change the oil and plugs for safety.
I agree with you James 850 minimum.
So yep 3,500ish.Worth every penny!!

I know that me and rich have lots of other goodies that have pushed the cost up further.

Yeah i guess its probably safest to replace the maf in advance... Plugs and oil, well i guess it depends when it was done last! No realy need to do it though unless it needed doing anyway.

EYah, the 'basic' cost of upgrade is just that...basic! When you add on al the other things that you either need or just compliment, it increases rapidly.

My local hydraulics specialist is an aeroquip dealer and made me the hoses to my specification for very reasonable prices...

Your local hydraulics place sounds good.Still if your going this route you would still need flanges and gaskets which you would have to source from turbo suppliers. It can be done for cheaper but there are definite benefits to having a reputable company doing the work with any possible problems/warranty.

Have pm'd you rich.
