ticking noise from engine

hello ppl, i have just got my car back after weeks in a bodyshop, i collected it and after about 10 minutes of driving, i lost all power, and now have a very loud ticking noise which seems to be coming from the engine block. my a4 1.8t Q now sounds like a mk3 1.1 fiesta. Any ideas anyone?????????

Is It sorted Chris ? I can only guess the ticking noise may be the cam etc. Has it been oil starved ? Whilst it's been in the body shop for a week - has it been started up. Not that it should make any difference (leaving the car stod for a week), but perhaps a blockage in the oil pump etc.

Check your oil level. Open the oil filler cap whilst ticking over - can you see if oil / mist is coming through... only simple tests but I'm no mekanic !!
